At least once every month, I open up Instagram and engage in a live Q&A discussion with some of the Instagrammers who follow Imagineer Podcast. Because not everybody has Instagram, I decided to record one of these events as a bonus episode for the show. Since the discussions cover a wide range of tips and ideas for Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney+ (Disney Plus), and more, my hope is that you'll find the discussion interesting and perhaps will consider following me on Instagram for future Q&A's (although you don't have to wait for one to appear to ask me a question; simply DM me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can). Speaking of which, what other questions can I help to answer over the air on a future episode? The Candlelight Processional has been a part of Disney history since Disneyland's opening year, 1955, when Walt Disney invited 12 Dickens Carolers from the University of South Carolina to sing Christmas carols throughout the park. Since that day, the Candlelight has been an annual tradition at Disneyland, and an annual tradition at Walt Disney World since its opening year, 1971. Since 1994, Candlelight Processional has taken place at Epcot's America Gardens Theater, and I had the pleasure of attending this year's event with celebrity narrator Gary Sinise thanks to a trip #hosted by Academy Travel (I encourage you to plan a trip for the holidays next year using their free service, which can actually help you save money: https://apps.itams.com/AcademyCRM/form/waltdisney/IP). In this episode, we'll discuss the history of the Candlelight Processional, and I'll take you along with me to experience this year's event. What are your holiday traditions, do they include any Disney magic at home or away from home, and have you ever attended the Candlelight Processional? Test Track has been a fan favorite at Walt Disney World since it opened at Epcot in 1999, but its history with Walt Disney Imagineering dates back as far as 1976 when Bob Gurr met with Bill Mitchell (then General Motors Head of Design) to discuss a potential partnership between Disney and GM. When it replaced World of Motion, Test Track became the fastest attraction not only at Walt Disney World but at any Disney Park around the world, a title it still holds 20 years later. In this episode, we'll dive into the history of Test Track, discuss some fun ride details and trivia, and enjoy a binaural recording of both the original and current versions of Test Track.  What do you love most about Test Track, and which version do you love more (the original or current iteration)? It's time for another exciting episode of Disney This or That! While Volume 1 compared Disney animated heroes and Volume 2 compared Disney animated villains, in Volume 3 we will pick our favorite Disney Duo from the world of Walt Disney Animation and Pixar. In particular, we'll begin with a preselected group of 16 famous Disney Duos and utilize a bracket-style tournament to narrow the list down to one winner. Who will win this episode? Tune in to find out! From the preselected list, who would you choose as the best Disney Duo? One of the many pleasures of visiting the Walt Disney World Resort is turning on your in-room TV to Must Do Disney (formerly known as the Top 7 Must Sees at Walt Disney World), and if you've turned on this station at any point since May 5, 2005, Stacey J. Aswad has been your host. For the last 15 years, Stacey has guided us through Walt Disney World, telling us the must-do attractions at the four Walt Disney World theme parks, two water parks, Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney), and countless other recreation and activities around the resorts. In this episode, I have the honor of chatting with Stacey directly about her work for Disney, her early life growing up in upstate New York, her career since graduating from the prestigious Julliard School in New York City, her championship roller skating skills, her work on VO Buzz Weekly, and more. With Thanksgiving officially kicking off the winter holiday season here in the United States, I wanted to formally close out the fall season at Disney by sharing some binaural audio of Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (offered as a ticketed event on select nights between August and November at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World). In particular, this episode will include a recording of Mickey's Boo-to-You Parade and the all-new Disney's Not So Spooky Spectacular, which debuted this Halloween season. December Charity Event: Join the Imagineer Society in December and 100% of the proceeds (for new and existing members) will be forwarded to DonorsChoose.org to support education. Imagineer Society is a monthly membership that offers exclusive perks and benefits not available to the general public. Membership can be canceled at any time (no additional fees are associated with joining or canceling). Learn more and sign up at Patreon.com/imagineerpodcast (and again, all of the profits for December will be forwarded to Donors Choose). The Land Pavilion has been a staple at Epcot since it opened on the park's official dedication, October 1, 1982. While many guests now visit this pavilion because of the signature attraction, Soarin' (something we'll be sure to cover in a future episode), the other attractions here, especially Living with the Land, have a long, rich history at Walt Disney World. In this episode, we'll discuss how The Land is perhaps the closest to Walt's original vision for EPCOT Center and explore the pavilion's attractions past and present (Listen to the Land, Kitchen Kabaret, Symbiosis, Living with the Land, Food Rocks, Circle of Life: an Environmental Fable, and the various restaurants throughout the pavilion's history). Jim Sarno was a Walt Disney Imagineer working on the opening team for Epcot. He worked in the model shop with Harriet Burns, Joe Rohde, and many more classic Imagineers. Working on many of the pavilions we know and love at Epcot - including The Land Pavilion, Imagination Pavilion, Communicore, and Spaceship Earth - Jim was responsible for creating SMRT-1, the fountain that once lived in the center of the Land Pavilion, and much more. In this episode, I interview Jim as we discuss how he came to work at Walt Disney Imagineering, the projects he worked on, and advice he has for those looking to work for Walt Disney Imagineering in the future. This episode is my love letter to IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. On September 30, 2019, I was lucky enough to be in attendance of this Epcot nighttime spectacular's final curtain call. In the spirit of nostalgia, I turned on the mics and stood in the back of the crowd to record the best audio I possibly could for YOU, the Imagineer Podcast listener, so you could be with me at the final showing through this episode! So grab some headphones, pull up your favorite armchair, and enjoy this bonus episode of Imagineer Podcast, featuring my longest end credit audio ever (a grand exit for a grand show). How many times have you seen IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth? What's your favorite part? Where does it rank on your list of favorite nighttime shows? McNair Wilson is a retired Walt Disney Imagineer who coined the term "Streetmosphere" (now commonly used in the theme park industry) and created street theater performances across the Disney Parks, especially at Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios (at the time it was still called Disney-MGM Studios). McNair is also responsible for creating the name "Downtown Disney" and for creating the Adventurers Club at Pleasure Island. In addition, NcNair developed concepts for many of the Disney attractions we know and love today, most notably the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. In this podcast episode, I have the pleasure of chatting directly with McNair about his work at Walt Disney Imagineering and his experiences meeting and working with Claude Coats, Marty Sklar, Michael Eisner, Frank Wells, Mel Brooks, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and even Walt Disney. Harriet Burns was known as Walt Disney's First Lady of Imagineering, not only because of her contributions to the organization but also because she truly was the first woman hired at WDI in a creative capacity. Harriet is a Disney Legend and even has a window on Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland. Working directly with Walt Disney, Harriet helped to create many of the classic attractions we know and love today, including Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room, The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Matterhorn Bobsleds, the Carousel of Progress, and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. She also built the robin that Mary Poppins sings "Spoonful of Sugar" to in the original film. Harriet passed away in 2008, but her legacy still lives on today. In this episode, I have the distinct privilege of interviewing Haley Clair, the granddaughter of Harriet Burns. Haley and I chat about her grandmother's life, legacy, work at Walt Disney Imagineering, and interactions with Walt Disney. Which of Harriet Burn's creations do you love most? This year, The Walt Disney Company made hundreds of announcements at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. Even as I was preparing this list of major announcements, I was amazed at how much Disney news was revealed between Disney Plus, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Walt Disney Animation, Disney Studios, Disney Legends, and the Disney Parks and Resorts. Some of the biggest highlights include updates about Epcot's future, Marvel Avengers Campus coming to Disney California Adventure, two new Pixar films, incredible new shows coming to Disney Plus, and so much more. In this bonus episode, we'll recap the major highlights from D23 Expo 2019 and share our thoughts and opinions about the future of Disney. Which of these announcements are you most excited about? The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park just celebrated its 50th anniversary, so now more than ever seems the perfect time to discuss this classic attraction. Of all the attractions at Disney Parks around the world, there are few that can beat The Haunted Mansion's popularity. Although there have been a few incremental updates to the original versions at Disneyland Park in California and Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, the rides remain virtually the same as they were when they first opened, including the special effects. In today's episode, we'll dive into the history and details of The Haunted Mansion, and we'll ride through the attraction together via binaural audio. What do you love most about The Haunted Mansion? There are so many aspects of RunDisney that make it special: it turns runners into Disney fans and Disney fans into runners, it encourages people to be their very best, and it creates a positive community of goal-setting go-getters, just to mention a few! In this two-part series, our group discusses everything you need to know about RunDisney, including which races to choose, how to register, how to plan your Walt Disney World vacation around the events, how to train for the races, the RunDisney experience, and the emotional gratification of completing a RunDisney event. Which RunDisney events have you done before (and how many)? Are there any additional tips you would offer first-time runners? If you haven't run with RunDisney before, which race do you think you might start with? There's no denying Disney's cultural impact on the world. Ever since Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse in 1928, countless cultures around the globe have come to recognize the three-circled Disney icon. A smaller facet of Disney's cultural impact that not many know about is an international program known as Disney English, a division of Disney Publishing through which Cast Members teach English language courses (utilizing some Disney magic) to students in various countries. In this episode, I chat with Daniel Morris, a former Disney English Cast Member and author of the book, Teaching with Disney: A Memoir of Disney English, about his experiences with this part of the organization. If you were to build a new Disney theme park around the world, which new location would you select? When you visit Walt Disney World, especially with small kids, it's often worth knowing the family-friendly attractions that don't require a particular height to ride. In many cases, these Disney attractions are also the ones we have the fondest memories experiencing, whether it be "it's a small world", Peter Pan's Flight, Spaceship Earth, and more. In this episode, I chat with Jamie and Kristi of Hakuna Moscato Moms to discuss our favorite Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom attractions that don't feature a height requirement. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has been delighting (and horrifying) Guests at Walt Disney World since 1994. It set new records at Disney-MGM Studios (now Disney's Hollywood Studios) when it opened and still remains one of the most thrilling attractions at any Disney Park. What makes the attraction a true classic, though, is the incredible detail that went into its design. The backstory, the details, and the overall experience have earned Tower of Terror a strong reputation. In fact, many consider it to be the best attraction that Walt Disney Imagineering has ever created. In this episode, we'll explore the history, details, and facts that make Tower of Terror so incredible, and we'll ride this attraction together through binaural 360 degree audio. How does the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror rank on your list of Disney attractions? What do you love most about this ride? Which version is your favorite? Happy Star Wars Day! Star Wars Galaxy's Edge was first announced back at the D23 Expo in August 2015 for Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resort. Since then, Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm have given us only sneak peaks of what we can come to expect. In this special May 4th episode, we'll uncover what we've learned so far in this mostly spoiler-free episode. We'll discuss what to expect from the food, merchandise, land, and of course the major attractions, including Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run, and Rise of the Resistance. Star Wars Galaxy's Edge will open its doors at Disneyland Park on May 31, 2019 and at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World on August 29, 2019. Rise of the Resistance will not be open on these dates but is expected to open its doors later in 2019. What are you looking forward to most from Star Wars Galaxy's Edge? The music at Walt Disney World is more than just a series of random songs. It's truly a part of the experience. You'll hear 360-degree binaural audio of the full dining experience, including the live show that accompanies your meal when dining here. There's an easy way to spot a true Disney fan: they're the ones who rave about waiting in line for an attraction! Why? Waiting in the queue for a Disney attraction is not like waiting in line at your local amusement park. The Imagineers put so much detail into the queue that it really becomes an experience. It's not an inconvenience; it's a part of the journey and the story. In this episode, we'll dive into our favorite queue experiences at Walt Disney World and help to convince you that waiting in standby at Disney (up to a certain threshold of course) is worth taking the time to look around and explore. Welcome to our second "Disney This or That" podcast episode! As with Volume 1, Disney This or That is a game that is meant to stir up conversation and debate about our Disney favorites - favorite Disney Parks, attractions, movies, snacks, and much more. In today's episode (volume two), we debate who we would pick as the Disney villain most deserving of the title, "villain". To keep things simple, we only discuss a small handful of villains from Disney animated movies. Examples include Scar, Ursula, Hades, Frollo, Gaston and more. Which Disney animated villain do you think is the most villainous? Would you have chosen a winner differently or do you agree with our group's decision? Send me your feedback via email or through direct or public message at any of the following and [with your permission] I'll include your message in a future show: Facebook: www.facebook.com/ImagineerPodcast Instagram: www.instagram.com/ImagineerPodcast Twitter: www.twitter.com/ImagineerAudio Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/imagineerpodcast/ NEW! While we love traveling to the Disney Parks, one of the saddest moments is having to leave. Whether it happens when you're boarding the Magical Express, crossing through the gates from Walt Disney World, boarding your plane, or arriving at your front door, the "Disney blues" are bound to set in at some point. To help cope with these Disney blues, we as Disney fans often purchase merchandise, watch videos, listen to Disney music and even light scented candles to help us rekindle that magic. In today's episode, we'll discuss our favorite ways to bring the Disney magic home with us. How do you cope with the "Disney blues" after your vacation? Of all the longes at Walt Disney World, Trader Sam's Grog Grotto might be the best. Since I started the Imagineer Podcast, I've had the honor of building so many amazing Disney friendships, and in that span of time, many have reached out to me directly to ask questions regarding vacations to Walt Disney World or Disneyland, becoming a Cast Member for the Walt Disney Company, and even how to stay connected to the magic when back at home. In today's episode, I'll open my inbox (email, Facebook, Instagram and more) and answer many of your Disney-related questions. Answering these questions with me is my good friend, April Beisser, who knows a thing or two about working for the Walt Disney Company and about traveling to the most magical place on earth. When I first created the Imagineer Podcast, I wanted to pay homage to Walt Disney Imagineers, the creative geniuses who design and create the Disney Parks & Resorts. That's why I'm incredibly proud to be able to share an interview I had with a retired Engineer, Guy Spagnoli, who knows a thing or two about Walt Disney Imagineering. Guy is not only a gifted and experienced Engineer; he's also a caring Cast Member even to this day (years after officially retiring from the Walt Disney Company). In today's episode, Guy and I chat about his experiences working for the Walt Disney Company and his outlook on what it takes and what it truly means to be a Cast Member for Disney. As the Disney Parks continue to evolve, there are times when attractions we love must sadly close to be replaced by another. One of those attractions at the Magic Kingdom was The Timekeeper, a show that existed in Tomorrowland between 1994 and 2006 (and at Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland in the late 1990's and early 2000's). In today's episode, we'll step into our "podcast time machine" to experience Timekeeper at Walt Disney World. We'll also discuss a few fun details and facts that you might not have known about this experience. Did you get the chance to experience Timekeeper at Magic Kingdom (or even Disneyland Paris or Tokyo Disneyland)? If so, what did you think of the attraction? If you did not get the chance to experience it in person, what do you think of Timekeeper after listening to this episode? Send me your feedback via email or through direct or public message at any of the following and [with your permission] I'll include your message in a future show: Facebook: www.facebook.com/ImagineerPodcast Instagram: www.instagram.com/ImagineerPodcast Twitter: www.twitter.com/ImagineerAudio Please also join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/imagineerpodcast/ and invite your friends to join as well. When you visit Walt Disney World, one of the most important decisions is deciding which attraction to visit first. At Disney's Animal Kingdom, I usually recommend that you head straight to Flight of Passage first thing in the morning (unless you are able to get a FastPass+). In fact, it's usually best to show up at least 30 minutes before the park opens in order to reduce your wait time in the standby queue. In this bonus episode, I'll take you with me for a full ride through Flight of Passage at rope drop. We'll enjoy the ambiant sounds as you walk with me through the queue and then hop on the back of an Ikran (aka a banshee) and take an exhilarating flight through the Valley of Moara in Pandora, the World of Avatar. Want to skip the line? Skip ahead to 42 minutes. When you visit Disney's Animal Kingdom or the other Disney Parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, or even Disneyland or Disney California Adventure Park), what are the attractions you like to head to first? Send me your feedback via email or through direct or public message at any of the following and [with your permission] I'll include your message in a future show: Facebook: www.facebook.com/ImagineerPodcast Instagram: www.instagram.com/ImagineerPodcast Twitter: www.twitter.com/ImagineerAudio Please also join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/imagineerpodcast/ and invite your friends to join as well. Throughout the last few decades and especially in the last 15 years, The Walt Disney Company has engaged in several licensing partnerships and a handful of major acquisitions. Most notably, the last two decades have brought us Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel and now Fox, providing so many new opportunities for experiences in the Disney Parks. In this Imagineer Podcast episode, we discuss the significance of these partnerships and acquisitions when it comes to visiting Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and the other international Disney Parks. What are your thoughts and opinions about these acquisitions and partnerships? Which Pixar, Lucasfilm, or Marvel experience is your favorite at the Disney Parks and Resorts, and what might you expect to see from the acquisition of Fox? Send me your feedback via email or through direct or public message at any of the following and [with your permission] I'll include your message in a future show: Facebook: www.facebook.com/ImagineerPodcast Instagram: www.instagram.com/ImagineerPodcast Twitter: www.twitter.com/ImagineerAudio Please also join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/imagineerpodcast/ and invite your friends to join as well. One of the most intense attractions at Walt Disney World is Mission: SPACE, located in Future World at Epcot. In its current version, Mission: SPACE offers two experiences, Orange Team (the original attraction that takes Guests to Mars on a centrifugal simulator) and Green Team (a tamer version of the attraction that takes Guests on an orbit around the Earth). In today's episode, we'll explore the history and fun facts of this attraction, and we'll also take a ride on Mission: SPACE together (Green team). Which version of Mission: SPACE do you prefer? How does this attraction rank on your list of favorites at Walt Disney World? Send me your feedback via email or through direct or public message at any of the following and [with your permission] I'll include your message in a future show: Facebook: www.facebook.com/ImagineerPodcast Instagram: www.instagram.com/ImagineerPodcast Twitter: www.twitter.com/ImagineerAudio Please also join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/imagineerpodcast/ and invite your friends to join as well. Epcot has so many attractions, yet most Guests tend to spend a majority of their time in Future World. When it comes to World Showcase, many skip over the "smaller" attractions, which include Reflections of China and Impressions de France. In today's episode, we'll unwind in World Showcase together and experience these two attractions in binaural audio. Grab your favorite snack or beverage from the China or France pavilion and enjoy the experience! Which pavilion in World Showcase is your favorite? "If you can dream it, you can do it!" I sign off every podcast episode with this philosophy, and Horizons at Epcot was the attraction that brought this mantra to life. Although this attraction has been extinct since 1999, it has won over the hearts and imaginations of millions of Guests around the world, and its optimism and spirit are still celebrated today. In this episode, we dive into the history and facts of this classic attraction, as well as an on-ride experience of this famous omnimover. What are your thoughts about this attraction? Did you have the chance to ride Horizons when it was open? I would love to hear your thoughts! Whether your first trip to Walt Disney World was 1971 or 2001, there are attractions that have come and gone throughout the course of the park's history. As Walt Disney once said, "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." While the changes made are often for the best (and the new attractions are ones that we grow to love), there is always a part of us that misses our old favorites. In today's episode, we explore that very topic to identify the extinct attractions at Disney that we miss or missed. Special thanks to John and Ann Marie for lending their voices and opinions to this show! You can learn more about their podcast (Central Florida Sights and Sounds) by visiting http://www.cfsas.com. Which of Disney's extinct attractions do you miss the most? Which did you never get to experience that you wish you could today? I would love to hear your thoughts! One of the many reasons we love Disney movies is the amazing soundtracks that countless artists, musicians, producers and composers work so hard to create. The music of the Disney movies helps to capture the emotions we feel while watching our favorite films, sometimes without even a single lyric. In this podcast episode, a small group of us sit around the table to chat about our top 10 Disney soundtracks, including music from Disney's animated and live action films, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars. Some choices might even surprise you. Special thanks to Joanna, Jenn and Sara for lending their voices and opinions. What are your favorite Disney soundtracks? I would love to hear your thoughts! Jambo, everyone! On this episode of the Imagineer Podcast, we head over to Disney's Animal Kingdom to take a ride on Kilimanjaro Safaris, the cornerstone attraction at the park that opened on April 22, 1998. In a rather special episode, I'll take you back 11 years ago to ride on one of my last safaris working as a Cast Member on the Disney College Program at Kilimanjaro Safaris in 2007. Special thanks to my good friend John Corigliano of the Central Florida Sights and Sounds Podcast for recording this audio in December 2007 as a way to preserve this memory for me. (Shameless plug for John and Ann Marie's podcast... it's amazing! Be sure to subscribe to their channel!) What is your favorite animal on Kilimanjaro Safaris? Do you have a favorite experience or story from this attraction? Send me an email for the chance to have your feedback read on a future episode!
