Have you ever worked hard day in and day out, week after week, only to find yourself wondering why you’re even doing what you’re doing?   Sometimes we are so focused on climbing the ladder that we don’t notice it’s leaning against the wrong wall — and this is because there are unintended consequences to setting your goals by looking forward.   When you set goals looking forward, you miss the most important part of goal setting: where you’re going and why you’re going. If you don’t have that purpose and priority before you set your goals and start working away at them, you can’t be productive. So, in this episode, Clay Clark, Founder of ThriveTime Show and co-host of Business School Without the BS, is going to share when he realized he was living a life by default and how he started living a life by design.   If you want this same experience facilitated for you, consider joining us at our Goal-Setting Retreat.   In this episode, you will learn... No one succeeds alone — yet, most people try to.   One of the biggest mistakes we see people making is that they set goals by themselves, and then they struggle throughout the year because the people who are in their life — the people who have to buy into their goals if they want to accomplish them — aren’t on the same page.   That’s why we created The ONE Thing Couple’s Goal-Setting Retreat, modeling an exercise that Jay and Wendy Papasan have been doing for the past decade. The point isn’t to negotiate for whose goals are right, but for each person to understand what the other person’s goals are and how they can support the other person in achieving those goals. In this episode, we’re going to look at what happens when a couple, for the first time, sets their goals together. The results are pretty amazing, but here’s the best part: you can do it too.   If you want to put the ideas discussed in this episode into action, consider joining us at our Goal-Setting Retreat. And if you can’t make it to Austin this year, we’ll help you host your own retreat with the Kick Ass Guide® to Your Couples Goal Setting Retreat and the Goal Setting Retreat Master Course.   In this episode, you will learn... [13:20] How you know when you aren’t on the same page with the people close to you. [17:50] What has surprised Jake & Alyx since their goal-setting retreat. [25:40] Why you should set goals with not just your significant other, but also your business partner and/or team. [29:10] What you should avoid when you’re setting goals. When you set your goals, are you doing it by yourself or with your significant other?   When we’re not aligned with the people who are most important to us, the people who have a significant stake in our lives, we’re eliminating one of the most powerful support systems we have — and putting obstacles in the path of our goals. So how can we get them on board with the goal-setting process, even if they’re not goal setters themselves?   In this episode, we’re going to look at what one couple did in this exact situation, Kaelyn Loes and Brent Wallace. One of them was your prototypical goal setter — they read the book, listened to the podcast, used productivity apps — while the other felt that the goal-setting process restricted them at times. But today, they go on this journey together, and in this episode you’ll learn about the tools and conversations that helped them come into alignment.   If you want to put the ideas discussed in this episode into action, consider joining us at our Goal-Setting Retreat. What were you taught about setting goals as a kid?   If we’re taught anything, we’re usually taught to set goals around New Year’s. But now, as we head into the last quarter of the year, is actually the perfect time to start considering our goals for the upcoming year.   Gary Keller and Jay Papasan show us that, if you want to have great success, you have to have a bigger view of time — and you have to understand that the actions you take today may not have results until days or months down the road. So, in this episode, Jay and Wendy Papasan are going to share how they’ve been setting goals for years and how you can apply these simple practices into your own relationship and/or business, even if the other people in your world aren’t goal setters.   If you want to join us at our Goal-Setting Retreat Nov. 9th & 10th in Austin, TX, you can learn more at the1thing.com/event. The ONE Thing is about the surprisingly simple truth behind extraordinary results — but anyone who has tried knows that simple doesn’t mean easy.   Life throws us curveballs. How, in those moments, can we get back on track?   Today, our guest is Chris Hofmann, who is a member of our Living Your ONE Thing Community. He was well on his way to building a career as a successful executive, counterbalancing that with a great family life, when his world was turned upside down by a series of strokes. What does it mean to have accountability in your life?   Because there are different levels of accountability. We can hold ourselves accountable by using tools like a 411, 66-Day Challenge, or The ONE Thing Planner. We can bring accountability into our world by recruiting an accountability partner. Then, when we want the highest level of accountability possible, we have to look to an expert – to a coach.   A lot of people ask us what it means to have a coach, how to know if it’s the right fit, and how to get the most out of that relationship. So, today, we sit down to learn the answers to those questions from Charlotte Savoy, who both embodies accountability in her businesses and coaches other people on The ONE Thing through MAPS Business Coaching.   If you think this sounds like a good fit for you, you can learn more about our Get a ONE Thing Coach, Become a ONE Thing Coach, or Living Your ONE Thing Community.   In this episode, you will learn... Does your organization have a culture of accountability?   In the last episode, Abe Shreve taught us that one of the critical mistakes that many businesses make is not creating a culture of accountability. It is a necessary part of sustainable business growth, but as many of us have experienced, it’s not an easy thing to do.   So, today, Gene Rivers is going to teach us how he created a culture of accountability with his team – and how you can coach your people to their possibilities, too!   If you want support in implementing what is discussed in this episode, head over to the1thing.com/training.   In this episode, you will learn... Imagine you are on an airplane and, along the way, it starts to deviate just a few degrees off course – if the plane does not correct course over the length of that flight, do you think you’ll end up in the right destination?   Probably not, and who knows where we would end up! But this is the way that most people live their lives – they wake up, take action, and move forward, but they’re not always clear on exactly where they’re going or why they’re going there. And when they’re off course, they’re not even aware of it, which is why so many people live a life by default instead of a life by design.   So, today, we want to introduce you to Dr. Cindy McGovern, who has been living the principles of The ONE Thing to ensure that she has a great career, and you will hear how purpose and planning were fundamental to living her mission: changing the way that people view sales.   To learn more, and for the complete show notes, visit: the1thing.com/podcast.   In this episode, you will learn... Do you know what it’s like to be so busy taking action that it feels like you don’t have time to slow down and create a plan?   We all feel this way sometimes. It’s become the norm in society – we wake up, we check email, we show up to work, we check email, we go to meetings, other people need our help so we stop to help them, and on and on. We race through the day feeling like we are so busy and then we question if we got anything done.   Today’s guest shares why there’s nothing worse than running enthusiastically in the wrong direction – and how doing so cost him $100MM. It’s relatively easy for an individual to start practicing The ONE Thing in their daily lives... but how do you scale The ONE Thing throughout an organization?   Behind the scenes, we’ve been asking ourselves this question, and we’ve been working hard to come up with an answer that will help all teams, from a local real estate office all the way up to a Fortune 50 company, make living The ONE Thing part of their organizational culture.   Geoff Woods and Jay Papasan recently delivered a keynote presentation at the Keller Williams Family Reunion Convention, and today we’re going to share the first half of that presentation with all of you. Have you taken any time to be grateful today?   When we think about forming power habits, we often think about doing something that will improve our productivity or health. We rarely consider the transformative power of mindset habits, and one of the most powerful habits is gratitude. That may seem like an easy or trivial thing, but in practice, embodying a state of gratitude every day is both surprisingly challenging and significant.   Our guest John Israel, founder of The Mr. Thank You Project and author of The Mr. Thank You Project, experienced an epiphany: if he wanted to make a huge, positive impact on the world, he had to start by doing just ONE thing to express his gratitude, every day. This ONE habit, over time, has truly unleashed something extraordinary, and in this episode, we invite you to become a part of it.     In this episode, you will learn... [9:30] How to form a keystone habit for embodying gratitude [16:40] How to manage your time so that you don’t fail a 66-day (or 365-day) challenge [20:45] How to be grateful when you don’t want to be [36:00] Why you should consider doing this 66-day challenge   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: Out of everything you’ve heard in this episode, what’s the ONE thing you can do that will make everything else easier or unnecessary?   Get clear on that ONE thing, block it out in your calendar, and then protect it. Have you ever felt like you desperately want your situation to change... but no matter how hard you work, you just feel like you’re drowning?   There are these periods of our lives when, no matter how much action we take, we feel overwhelmed, and we just wish that we could take back our lives. We’re ambitious, we’re driven, but that just doesn’t feel like enough to get any forward momentum. This is especially true when we have kids, because honoring work commitments and being present as a parent is a monumentally difficult task for even the most extraordinary people.   That was how Casey Gocel felt, until she started living The ONE Thing. In this episode, Casey shares the story of how she struggled to strike a counterbalance in her life after having her first child – and how things started to change when she started doing just ONE thing differently; ONE thing that’s truly made everything else in her world easier or unnecessary.   In this episode, you will learn... [5:00] What happens when you take a hard and honest look at your calendar [11:30] The ONE Thing that can help you reclaim your calendar and your time [14:00] How to say no [18:55] How you can leverage accountability and delegation to help you stick to your most important tasks [25:45] What happens when your productivity and transformation inspires other people to take note   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: Wherever you are, whatever you are dealing with in your life, understand that it doesn’t have to be that way. You can make amazing changes in your life – and it doesn’t have to take that long!   The path to getting everything you want is to get ONE thing at a time. So start by identifying the ONE thing that will make everything else easier or unnecessary, and start focusing on that lead domino until it falls. Over time, as you can hear in this episode, it truly leads to extraordinary results (as long as you can overcome the distractions that try to steal your focus).   Links & Tools From This Episode The ONE Thing Mid-Year Reset Retreat: https://trainings.the1thing.com/reset LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/caseygocel/   AWESOME FREE RESOURCES FOR YOU! Do you ever struggle living the principles of The ONE Thing?   We know that there’s a surprisingly simple truth behind extraordinary results – but simple doesn’t mean easy. It’s not easy to maintain clarity on Your ONE Thing. It’s not easy to get Your ONE Thing done before you do anything else. It’s not easy to honor your time blocks and shut down every distraction that comes up. So what does it really take to overcome that hurdle and start living Your ONE Thing consistently?   To helps us answer that question, we are joined by Hal Elrod, author of the international bestseller The Miracle Morning and the brand-new book The Miracle Equation: The Two Decisions That Move Your Biggest Goals from Possible, to Probable, to Inevitable.   In this episode, you will learn... [8:00] The real purpose of a goal [16:30] How to achieve tangible, measurable miracles [21:35] Making the decision to have unwavering faith [40:00] ONE question you need to ask yourself if you are struggling to live The ONE Thing   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: If you could online achieve ONE goal this year, what would mean the most to you?   Once you understand what that goal is, ask yourself, what’s the ONE thing you can do that will make everything else easier or unnecessary?   You don’t earn the right to do anything else until you find an answer, and with it, the two-inch domino you can knock down. Keep asking that question until you know, for certain, you have identified the correct two-inch domino.   Then you need to apply The Miracle Equation.   If you want some additional guidance on your journey, we highly recommend ordering your copy of The Miracle Equation: The Two Decisions That Move Your Biggest Goals from Possible, to Probable, to Inevitable. Are you living a life by default or by design?   Many of us are living a life by default. We wake up, check social media, react to what we see, head into the office, check email, react, sit in meetings, get up, check email, react, and then go to the next meeting – and this repeats day after day after day! We feel so busy, and we wonder why we don’t get anything done.   When you live a life by default, you just get what you get – but when you life a life by design, you are working towards the goals you want with intention and a strategy. Today’s guest has travelled down a long and difficult road, but there’s ONE thing thing that allowed him to turn his failures into his success: a clear vision. In this episode, we’re going to learn how Brian Scudamore, CEO of O2E Brands and author of WTF?! (Willing to Fail), found the keys to success in his failures, ultimately growing a $400M+ business without sacrificing time with the people who matter most.   In this episode, you will learn... [9:20] What your life looks like when you life a life by design [14:00] How you can start adopting the mindset that everything doesn’t matter equally [16:40] How to listen to your failures [22:00] How you can make time to cast a vision when you’re so busy working on your business [33:50] What you can to do help the people you lead create a life, not a living [37:00] Why you need to fall in love with your vision   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: Brian tells us that the ONE thing that will make creating a life – not a living – easier or unnecessary is casting that vivid vision.   This isn’t easy. Often, we run into a wall of “I don’t knows,” and it takes both big questions and support to get over past that wall.   If you are looking for guidance, we recommend you check out The ONE Thing Goal Setting Master Course so that you can, from your hope, have a whole retreat facilitated for you. We will teach you the questions you need to ask to push past that wall, and then once you have your vision, we will help you create the goals that will get you there.   If you already have your vision, but you are struggling with identifying your ONE thing so that you stay aligned with your vision every day, check out The ONE Thing Membership. Are your priorities today aligned with your five-year goals?   If we aren’t taking steps towards our someday goals every single day, we’re probably never going to get there – at least not any time soon. But if we have the right mindset and structures in place, not only can we achieve our someday goals, we can achieve them even faster than we think is possible.   Last week, Jay Papasan and Geoff Woods discussed the how billionaires set goals using a process called Goal Setting to the Now. Today, we’re going to share the tools and processes that billionaires use to ensure they stay on track towards their someday goals, every day.     In this episode, you will learn... [5:00] How to make progress towards big goals, as a team, using a GPS [13:00] The mistake that most people make when they start time blocking [27:15] How you can use leverage to ensure that you’re always acting in order of priority [42:30] What you can do to help others with their time management and goal setting   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: We want you to think big, then go small.   Think big about your someday goals. Think big about being the type of person who has a GPS, who updates their 411 every single week, who time blocks their priorities and says no to all the distractions. That’s the big vision.   And now let’s go small – what’s the ONE thing you can do, such that be doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?   Jay suggests you can just make a commitment to getting the first draft of Your GPS done by Wednesday, or if you already have that, complete or update Your 411.   Links & Tools From This Episode If you want more support, join the Living Your ONE Thing Community Download your 411: the1thing.com/411 Download Your GPS: https://www.the1thing.com/resources/your-gps/   AWESOME FREE RESOURCES FOR YOU! Are you living a life by default or are you living a life by design?   Most of us are living a life by default. We wake up, take action, experience some successes, experience some failures, then repeat – but we get what we get by default. When billionaires set goals, however, they cast a vision into the future, then look backwards and set goals to the now. That’s how we live a life by design.   In this episode, we’re sharing the first half of Jay Papasan and Geoff Woods’s keynote presentation at the Keller Williams Family Reunion Convention 2019. This part is about the high-level principles of goal setting like a billionaire, and in the second part, we will dive into the tools billionaires use for goal setting.     In this episode, you will learn... [3:40] How you can start goal setting to the now [11:20] What you can learn from Gary Keller about getting clarity on your goals [16:00] Where in your life are you currently chasing distractions and saying no to what is truly the priority?   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: If you want to achieve extraordinary results, you can’t set goals looking forward. You have to have a vision for where you want to end up so that you can look back and identify the path that will get you there.   When you do that, you will know how to separate a true priority from a distraction.   Links & Tools From This Episode To help you start this process, go download the FREE Kick Ass Guide® to Goal Setting. What happens when your actions aren’t aligned with your goals?   When we are focusing on our ONE thing, it’s not like the rest of the world stops. The emails don’t stop piling up, meeting requests don’t cease to exist, and customer fires don’t magically disappear. The deeper we go into our one thing, the more this pressure builds – and we’re often so afraid of this chaos that we use time set aside for our ONE thing to clear off some of that 80% work. It feels productive for a moment, but in reality, we’re acting out of alignment with our goals.   So what happens when real stress and real anxiety starts to build up, and how do you deal with it without taking a detour off of the road to being extraordinary? To help us answer those questions, we are joined once again by Craig Ballantyne, author of the Wall-Street Journal Bestseller Unstoppable and The Perfect Day Formula.     In this episode, you will learn... [4:00] How we suffer from the paradox of freedom [7:00] What catalyzes our stress and anxiety [18:45] How you can get clarity on what’s most important [24:00] How to take a more proactive approach to your life   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: Out of everything that you heard in this episode, what is the ONE thing that really stood out to you? Have you ever scheduled time for your most important work?   Chances are, all of us has done this at least once. But do you regularly time block and then protect that time like the air you breathe, defending it against every distraction that comes up? For most of us, the answer is no – but why is that?   In this episode, we suggest that this is because we’re not great at keeping the promises we make to ourselves or to others – and we believe that if you can get a little more intentional about the promises you make when you’re planning your time, and the commitments you make to others, then everything else will become easier or unnecessary. Our guest, Alex Sheen, has taken this idea of a promise and turned it into a movement and a book called Because I Said I Would, which is helping people all over the world make promises that stick.   We recorded this conversation as part of our monthly ONE Thing webinar series. Every month, we feature an incredible author so that you can learn directly from them and ask questions. If you want to sign up for our next FREE monthly webinar, head over to the1thing.com/webinars.   In this episode, you will learn... [7:30] How the “market conditions” of promises have changed with technology [12:30] The anatomy of a promise [18:00] How you can gracefully say no – and still help people move towards their goals [28:30] How you can leverage time blocking to prioritize what you do and don’t promise to do   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:   What’s the ONE thing that you’re not doing that would make saying no easier or unnecessary?   Maybe you need to get clear on why you’re saying yes to what you’re saying yes to and no to what you’re saying no to. If you don’t have clarity on your bigger purpose, your bigger Why, it can be difficult to stick to your guns and say no when it matters.   Or maybe you need a go-to no sentence like Alex’s: “It would be easy for me to say yes right now, but I respect you too much to keep a promise I can’t keep.”   How much time do you think you’ll need to block to come up with that sentence? And how many times do you think you’ll have to practice it, even just one time a day, before it just sounds natural? What does football have to do with the 411?   Well back in 1960, the Packers made it to the NFL Championship, had a lead the whole game, and then lost to the Eagles in a stunning display in the fourth quarter. On the first day of training camp the following year, coach Vince Lombardi walked into the locker room, held up a football, and said, “This is a football.”   Why did Lombardi start with something so fundamental? He realized that if they could truly understand the surprising power of mastering the fundamentals, that that ONE thing could make everything else easier or unnecessary – and in 1961, the Packers went on to win the championship. So in this episode, we’re going to help you master the most fundamental tool in The ONE Thing toolbox: the 411.   In this episode, you will learn... [6:30] How to get clarity on what matters most thing is using the 411. [12:00] How to differentiate a priority from a distraction by goal setting to the now. [19:00] Why sometimes you will be succeeding so slowly that you feel like you’re failing.   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: Getting what you want out of life is not about doing more – it’s about doing more of what matters most.   Everything does not matter equally, and there are a handful of things that you can do, at any moment, that will create the majority of your results. Are you willing to try leveraging a 411 so that you are always clear on what those priorities are, so that your planner and your calendar can match your priorities?   If you want to get started on this... How do you show up as a better leader, and how do you do it in a world that’s constantly distracting us?   Technology has changed our lives in profoundly positive ways, but it’s also created more distrations than ever before – and if you’re like most people, you probably feel more disconnected than ever before.   So we sat down with the author of Back to Human: How Great Leaders Create Connection in the Age of Isolation, Dan Schawbel, to discuss how we can do a better job at facilitating connections in the workplace, in spite of the technology that’s constantly surrounding us.   We recorded this conversation as part of our monthly ONE Thing webinar series. Do you have a New Year’s Resolution about your health, organization, or money?   There’s a good chance you do because, statistically, these are the three most common goals people set every year. But as we mentioned in the last episode, only eight percent of people actually succeed in implementing their resolutions. One of the big challenges here is that you can’t succeed alone, especially if you have a significant other, but so many of us try to.   Today, we are sharing the case study of a couple who ran up against that challenge year after year – which, ultimately, meant they were fighting about money year after year – until they started having an annual couple’s goal-setting retreat 10 years ago. Now, Jenn and JP Lewis never fight about money, and in this episode, we’re going to break down how they did it and the ONE thing you can do today that will make everything else easier or unnecessary when it comes to setting your annual goals.   In this episode, you will learn... [4:45] Jenn’s advice for anyone who is hesitant to participate in a couple’s goal-setting retreat [12:00] What it looks like to reallocate funds and time to what matters most, as a team. [18:00] Why you need emotional buy-in during the goal-setting process. [25:00] The ONE thing you can do to make starting the couple’s goal-setting process easier or unnecessary. [43:30] How becoming part of a community of goal setters can bring your couple’s goal setting to a new level.   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:   So, out of everything that you've heard in this episode, what's your lead domino? What's that first step?   We’ll recap the tools covered in this episode, and you can choose just ONE to be your lead domino:   Sit down and ask each other the questions that Jenn and JP talked about (and this is their suggestion for where to start), which you can find in the Kick Ass Guide® to Your Couples Goal Setting Retreat. Have you started implementing the principles of The ONE Thing in your life?   It’s surprisingly simple... but it’s not easy. We’ve spoken with thousands of you who have started living The ONE Thing, and once you start going down that path, you realize something pretty quickly: there’s no way to succeed alone.   Today, we’re sharing Wyatt Graves’ journey from discovering to implementing the principles of The ONE Thing – to empowering a community to live these principles, too.     In this episode, you will learn... [7:45] What changes when you start living The ONE Thing [13:00] How Wyatt recruited the most important people in his life to come to the goal-setting retreat with him (even those who were a little skeptical) [19:30] What it looks like when you have a relationship with your goals [26:40] What most people are missing when they start trying to implement The ONE Thing [33:00] How to endure the monotony of success   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: Are you on your road to mastery when it comes to living The ONE Thing? And what do you think will be possible if the people in your world start going down that road, too?   When we asked Wyatt why he continues down this road to mastery, he said it’s because he knows that all leadership begins with self-leadership; it’s difficult to influence the people you care about if you’re not, first and foremost, walking the talk.   So who in your world do you really care about and who need to hear this message? Who do you want to experience what you’re experiencing by implementing the principles of The ONE Thing?   Send them this episode, send them to the1thing.com, or send an email introducing them to Geoff [at] the1thing.com and he will personally respond. Half of all Americans make New Year’s resolutions each year – but how many succeed? According to a study conducted by the University of Scranton and published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, only EIGHT PERCENT of people who set resolutions will actually succeed in implementing them. Today, we want to share why we believe that so many people fail – and the ONE thing you can do to be successful in making the changes you want to make this year.   In this episode, you will learn... [2:45] Why most people aren’t successful in implementing their resolutions. [5:40] Why does it matter if you get in better shape, get more organized, or spend less (three of the most common resolutions)? [6:30] How to get clear on the WHY and PURPOSE behind your goals. [11:30] Why your time blocking needs to reflect your priorities. [13:30] What motivates people. [18:00] What you can do to turn a resolution into a habit. [22:45] ONE tip for becoming part of the 8% who succeed.   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: So, where do you get started? Like anything with The ONE Thing, we encourage you to think big and then go small. When you’re setting goals, do you ask yourself who in your life directly contributes to whether or not you achieve that goal?   No one succeeds alone – but most people try to. One of the biggest mistakes we see people making is that they set goals by themselves, then they struggle throughout the year because the most important people in their life aren’t on the same page.   Our guests Jake and Alyx Dreyfuss blocked off time for their first couples goal-setting retreat last year. In this episode, Jake and Alyx share the discussions they had, the changes that have occurred over the past year, and what they’re doing differently for this upcoming year.   If you want to learn more about what it looks like to go on your own goal-setting retreat, go to the1thing.com/event and check out what we’re doing for The ONE Thing Couples Goal-Setting Retreat in Nov. 2018.     In this episode, you will learn... What if getting your priorities done was literally a matter of life and death?   We know that living The ONE Thing isn’t easy. Surprisingly simple, yes – but certainly not easy. Whether you’re an employee, an entrepreneur, or a stay-at-home parent, there are always things that pop up and try to pull you away from your most important priorities. Most of us have the luxury of being able to accept that and try to do better tomorrow... but what if you didn’t have that opportunity?   That’s the reality for our guest Steven Gendel, whose son was born prematurely and weighing under two pounds. Over the past 19 years of his life, he has had 50 neurosurgeries and there isn’t a day that goes by without a moment where he almost dies. So today we have a conversation about what it looks like to not only thrive in your career but quit your corporate job to build four businesses, while every single day knowing that one of the people who matter most to you may not actually make it through the day – a situation that forces you to get extreme clarity on your priorities.     In this episode, you will learn... [7:10] How you can go from living to thriving, even in a dire situation [10:18] What you need to do so that your businesses can grow even if you have to spend six months in a hospital [30:40] Why you need to empower the people in your world (and how to do that)   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode: One of the things that impress us most about Steven is that he always shows up with a smile on his face – there’s a peace about him, and you have to wonder if it’s because he wakes up every day with true clarity on what matters most.   Based on what you heard today, what can you start doing differently? What are the things you’re doing today that you would stop doing, at the drop of a dime, if something happened to the people who matter most to you? Are any of your so-called priorities, in reality, just distractions?   What’s the ONE thing that you can do that will make everything else easier or unnecessary?   If you want some support in answering those questions, head over to the1thing.com/event to sign up for The ONE Thing Couples Goal Setting Retreat (Nov. 17-18, 2018 in Austin, TX).   Links & Tools From This Episode Connect with Steven: Twitter | Facebook   AWESOME FREE RESOURCES FOR YOU! What is the ONE thing to focus on for business growth?   We believe that ONE thing is customer loyalty – so, as we scale our business, that means our ONE thing is engaging with people like you. So we’ve been asking ourselves, how do we form a deeper, more meaningful relationship with every single one of you so that, ultimately, you become a raving fan and get a level of mastery on the content so that you can turn around and empower the people in your world?   While we were asking these questions, Jay walked over to his bookshelf and pulled out a book. It was Monster Loyalty: How Lady Gaga Turns Followers Into Fanatics by today’s guest Jackie Huba, and it’s transforming the way we look at our business. So today we’re going to show you how Lady Gaga was able to build this passionate fan base and what lessons you can take and apply in your businesses.     In this episode, you will learn... [4:35] What is loyalty? [11:35] How do you identify your one percenters? [26:30] How can you can become part of the community around your business and give them something to talk about?   The ONE Thing to Implement From This Episode:   So, after listening to this episode, you've been armed with a foundation for growth. Now, are you willing to go on the journey to becoming a master of building customer loyalty?   If so, what habits do you or your business have to acquire that would make engaging those one percenters easier or unnecessary? Is it getting clear and focusing on your one percenters? Leading with your values? Building a community of those one percenters? Or generating something to talk about? Look at those four points and contrast them or compare them to what you're focusing on in your business right now. Are you focusing on the ONE thing that matters most?   When we look at our business, that lead domino, that if we continue to knock that down over time will lead to extraordinary results, is you.   If you see there is an opportunity but you’re struggling to come up with ideas for how to capitalize on it, one thing you can do first is read through Jackie’s book, Monster Loyalty, and write down 10 ways that you can implement each chapter. When you do that, you end up with this mind bank of things that you can do that will make building customer loyalty easier or unnecessary. We did this and it’s been extremely helpful.   And if you genuinely feel like you are one percenters for The ONE Thing, please e-mail Geoff@The1Thing.com because we're always asking, what are we doing that's actually creating that type of engagement? And we would love to have a conversation.   Links & Tools From This Episode Learn more at JackieHuba.com Connect with Jackie: Facebook | Twitter | LinkedIn Monster Loyalty: How Lady Gaga Turns Followers Into Fanatics   AWESOME FREE RESOURCES FOR YOU! What does it mean to be successful?   Gary Keller once shared an interest answer to this question: “Success is nothing more than moving from failure to failure without giving up.” And the more people we talk to, the more examples we see of that being true.   In this episode, we’re going to explore the value of failure – when paired with persistence – with Bruce Buffer, who you may know as UFC’s Voice of the Octagon.   In this episode, you will learn... Are you limiting the possibilities of anyone in your world?   We believe that leadership is teaching people how to think so that they can get what they need when they need it – but too often, we limit those around us, especially when it comes to creativity.
