My guest on the podcast today is Raegan Moya-Jones. Raegan built aden + anais while working a full-time job in ad sales and with only $15,000 in initial capital, and didn’t quit her 9-5 until they hit the $1 million mark in revenue. After working with a manufacturer to have prototypes made of the swaddling blankets, Raegan knew she was onto something after giving birth to her second daughter and realizing the nurses at the hospital had swiped all her samples. Without an MBA, Moya-Jones took a more grassroots approach to build the brand by going door-to-door to boutiques in her spare time to spark interest in her muslin blankets. In 2013, Prince George emerged from the hospital in aden + anais, subsequently causing the company’s site to crash from high demand. On this episode we discussed: - What inspired Raegan to write her new book - What it takes, How I built a $100 million business against all odds - The beginning of her story of how Aiden and Anais started - How she went from being a rebellious young woman, struggles with her mum, not having a high priced MBA to becoming the CEO of a $100 million business. - The issues women face and the stereotype placed upon us despite our ability to build incredibly successful businesses, raise children and more - all at the same time. - Her biggest challenges and successes building Aiden and Anais - Her tips for women to become more successful with money and in business How to keep up with Raegan: - Via her website at https://raeganmoyajones.com - Get her book, What it takes, How I built a $100 million business against all odds In it, she covers: - What it’s like butting heads with investors (or co-founders) - What to really do when you’re running out of money - Experiencing “mum guilt” and what to do with it (wanting to start a business does not mean you love your family any less!) ❤ Get the Clever Girl Finance book: https://clevergirlfinance.com/book ❤ Join Clever Girl Finance: https://clevergirlfinance.com ❤ Follow on Instagram: https://instagram.com/clevergirlfinance

Michelle Ives is a long-time listener of The Clever Girls know podcast and she got in touch with me because Clever Girl Finance has been a part of her financial education and she wanted to share her incredible story with all of us! About Michelle Ives: Michelle is a copywriter and brand strategist for her own business, Wordy and Smith. She lives in Sydney with her husband, Andy, and together, they’re well on their way to having saved their first half a million.   Formerly a journalist, Michelle spent over a decade working as a published writer (and a few other odd jobs). She learnt the in’s and out’s of how to build (and market) a successful business through two startups, as their respective Head of Communications. Just like the company's lean marketing budget, Michelle had to learn how to manage her personal one much the same way.   Michelle has a goal of fully retiring by the time she is 35, living solely off of the passive income generated through her assets in savings, property, shares, and superannuation. This will allow her to travel freely, volunteer full-time for causes she is passionate about and write for passion, not profit. To date, Michelle and her husband Andy, have saved and invested well over $400k, with another $100k rapidly piling up - and a clear strategy for success. What Michelle discussed in this episode: - The reasons why retiring early is a goal of hers. - How observing her husband was the turning point that caused her to take her finances seriously - What the experience of saving has been like, as well as the life-changing mindset and habit shifts she adopted to reach those numbers and much more. Budgeting on an inconsistent income can be tough especially because it's hard to plan. For example, if you are self employed or work as a freelancer or a contractor, your income is dependent on how much work you do but sometimes it's not always easy to determine what your actual income will look like at the end of each month. When it comes to budgeting on an inconsistent income, the best way to approach it is with a strategy that will allow you to be successful with managing your money and on this episode I share just how you can do it.
