After a twenty year career as the Executive Producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Sheri is now the author of The Beautiful No, co-host of The Sheri + Nancy Show, and co-founder of thepillarlife.com.   Our conversation begins with an emotional recounting of when Sheri’s brother passed away suddenly from a heart attack nine years ago. She shares the ways she was able to move through her grief by deepening her spirituality and making self-care a top priority every single day.   Sheri’s humor and honesty as she reflects on every single job she’s had, how each one has made her who she is today as an entrepreneur, and how the No’s ultimately gave her everything she needed to succeed, one lesson at a time. From managing a convenience store and a toy store, to working as a secretary. Sheri has started over and felt lost countless times, but kept searching for something to fill her with meaning. At age 35, she landed an entry level job at The Oprah Winfrey Show, and finally found what she was searching for—purpose.   We also talk about: Using gratitude for your growth Importance of dreaming and creating Uplifting others, seeing their potential and verbalizing it Being choosy about who you share your space with Cherishing our bodies in a deliberate way Sheri’s decision to have a plant-based diet   Find more to love at almost30podcast.com!   Resources: Learn more: thepillarlife.com Instagram: @sherisalata Listen: The Sheri + Nancy Show Book: The Beautiful No   Upcoming Events: July 27th: San Francisco with Lacy Phillips August 17th: The Workshop by PodcastPro in Los Angeles with K + L September 12th: Los Angeles with Nicole Lapin   Sponsors: HUM Nutrition | Use code ALMOST30NATION for 15% off at humnutrition.com Ana Luisa | Use code ALMOST30 for $10 off a $50 order at analuisa.com Athletic Greens | Get 20 travel packs FREE ($79 value) with your first purchase at www.athleticgreens.com/almost30 Chosen Foods | Use code ALMOST30 for 50% off at chosenfoods.com/almost30 Article | www.article.com/ALMOST30 for $50 off a purchase of $100 or more SAKARA | Go to sakara.com/almost30 and use code ALMOST30 for $60 off your first order Almost 30 is edited by Crate Media

Today we are sitting down with author, mother, and one of our favorite humans, Peta Kelly. Let us give you a few reasons why we love this woman so much: 1) Peta holds family as one of her greatest values 2) She is funny as hell 3) She walks the talk 4) She has taught us how to have hard conversations 4) She is constantly evolving without needing anything from anyone.  The list continues to grow—especially after today’s interview.   Since becoming a mom, she has really focused on the intimacy of motherhood, and shares the outside fears pushed on her during pregnancy, and the trust she maintained within herself. Peta explains what ancestral healing is and the work she does to help heal the painful experiences of her family’s past, like having open conversations with her husband.    While in her twenties, Peta focused on soul growth, while working hard as an entrepreneur to set herself up financially before moving into motherhood. We discuss how she’s evolved spiritually since then, since writing her book, Earth is Hiring, and how her self-care rituals, such as stepping off of social media and Cacao ceremonies, have changed since becoming a mom. We could talk to our girl all day, but we hope this conversation will fill you up for a while—self-expression, personal growth, and relationships—LET’S GO! Our relationship with Mother Earth, and the need for even the smallest of actions to protect her, is our focus in today’s podcast with Ayana Young. She is the founder of the nonprofit For The Wild which now encompasses the 1 Million Redwoods reforestation project, For the Wild podcast, and a new spinoff series birthed from a preservation campaign around the Tongass National Forest. Ayana’s journey as an advocate and protector of our Earth began when she was studying Ecology at Columbia University.  She eventually dropped out to become a full time political organizer. She intertwined the environmental concerns with the “Occupy Wall Street” movement to bring awareness to the decline of our planet’s health.   Ayana’s passion comes through as she illustrates how we are connected to everything; our modern lives are directly related to taking resources from the planet and not reciprocating. She explains the detriments of logging and building dams and howgold mining has created genocide in the west by producing high volumes of waste water. She urges us to invest in our local communities, and to educate ourselves and become more aware of climate change even when it’s overwhelming and heartbreaking. Ayana shares how she recommits herself to the Earth every day, and how each of us can reestablish that connection.   We also talk about: The politics behind forest fires What organic really means Funding of scientific studies The extinction of animals Being a steward of the earth   Find more to love at almost30podcast.com!   Resources: Learn: forthewild.world Listen: For The Wild Instagram: @for.the.wild Twitter: @ForTheWild_ Facebook: For The Wild  Email: connect@forthewild.world   Upcoming Events: Almost 30 Tour   Sponsors: HUM Nutrition | Use code ALMOST30NATION for 15% off at humnutrition.com Sanctuary World | sanctuaryworld.co or in app store Sanctuary Astrology Chosen Foods | Use code ALMOST30 for 50% off at chosenfoods.com/almost30 Daily Harvest | Use code ALMOST30 for 3 FREE Cups in your first box at www.daily-harvest.com Skinny Dipped | Use code ALMOST30 for 20% off at skinnydipped.com Almost 30 is edited by Crate Media

This episode if for anyone who has ever felt disconnected from their body and intuition, for anyone navigating life after betrayal and for anyone wanting to forgive others and themselves. This is an intimate conversation on relationships, trust, listening to your physical and emotional bodies. Joining us is physical therapist Dr. Jen Esquer, founder of the The Mobility Method, known for relieving pain, preventing injury, and optimizing movement. Jen is all about affecting change in the body through education, movement, and building appreciation for what our unique bodies are capable of doing.   But we are honored to have Jen talk about more than mobility today. She opens up about her past relationship ending in infidelity, the way she handled the heartbreak, and how connected she became to her inner knowing. It really struck a chord with us when she discusses the importance of having friends that can hold a safe space, without judgment, to release the spectrum of emotions that may arise. We unpack the benefits of breathwork and the effect it can have on your parasympathetic nervous system.  For example, it allows one to release emotions so they don’t stay trapped. Jen gives a generous tool box if we ever lose ourselves in someone or a situation and want to reconnect with who we really are.   We also talk about: Knowing when to leave and when to work on a relationship How our triggers may affect other people Finding forgiveness for yourself Expectations versus reality (when someone shows you who they are, believe them!)  Understanding pain, mobility, and breath   Find more to love at almost30podcast.com!   Resources: Instagram: @docjenfit Learn more: docjenfit.com   Upcoming Events: Almost 30 Tour   Sponsors: Four Sigmatic | Use code ALMOST30 for 15% off your order at foursigmatic.com/almost30 Lola | Use code ALMOST30 for 40% off all subscriptions at mylola.com Buffy | Go to www.buffy.co use code ALMOST30 for $20 off Doordash | Download the doordash app and use code ALMOST30 for $5 off your first order of $15 or more Third Love | Head to thirdlove.com/almost30 for 15% off! Our guests today are Danika Brysha and Billy Haley! Danika is our dear friend and the founder and CEO of Model Meals, as well as a successful model.. Billy is a private chef and the owner of Culinary Recovery Foods. Together, the two toured the United States in 2018 to host The Brunch Series, a workshop style gathering to define and design self-care for each woman in attendance.  Lindsey and Krista had the privilege of attending the series in Boston and were blown away by how Danika’s vulnerability and strength empowered every woman there to take an honest look at where they could be taking better care of their mind, body and spirit.  In our conversation today, we hear from Danika and Billy in the middle of their conscious uncoupling, speaking on how that has been both healthy for their relationship together and incredibly painful at times.. This episode is for those trying to navigate relationships, those struggling to understand loved ones in recovery, for those in relationships where you aren’t sure of the outcome but know you need space, and for human beings who are dying to communicate honestly and openly with those they love most.. We are honored that Danika and Billy  chose our platform to share their experiences and current status   We also talk about: Planning out the Brunch Series Discovering their codependency dynamic Having intuitive hits in the relationship Shame from the past overpowering love from family and friends The importance of doing the work on yourself Mindful masculinity and what it means to Danika and Billy Using energy work and hypnotherapy to heal Recovery steps being applicable to anyone Billy’s relationship with a higher power Having real, honest conversations   Find more to love at almost30podcast.com!   Resources: Learn more: danikabrysha.com ; culinaryrecoverfoods.com Instagram: @danikabrysha ; @culinaryrecovery Read: Codependent No More by Melody Beattie   Upcoming Events: May 30th: Denver with Natalie Miles June 20th: Los Angeles with Bree Melanson Almost 30 Retreat   Sponsors: Chosen Foods | Use code ALMOST30 for 50% off at chosenfoods.com/almost30 Honeybook | Use code ALMOST30 for 50% off the first year of Honeybook at honeybook.com Article | www.article.com/ALMOST30 for $50 off a purchase of $100 or more Calm | Get 25% off a Calm premium subscription at www.calm.com/almost30 Almost 30 is edited by Crate Media

We are so grateful for today’s episode and today’s guest, sharing her story and providing an inside look at what it’s like to be a social worker in the foster care system today. On a previous episode, we had mentioned how we’d like to be educated more on the foster care system, and an incredible member of #almost30nation reached out to share her story. This conversation today is emotional, insightful, and is sure to offer you a clearer picture of the field of social work and the world foster kids live in today.   Words from our guest: I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) working and residing in Los Angeles County. I work with children, teenagers, and families with severe histories of trauma and mental illness. The children and families I work with are a part of the LA County foster care system. I support my clients by helping them process their trauma, empowering them to reach their full potential, advocating for their needs, navigating the foster care system, and guiding them through the roller coaster journey they are on. I have never met more resilient people than my clients, and they inspire me to do this challenging work and be the best version of myself day in and day out.   I am originally from the Bay Area and moved to the East Coast to complete my Master of Social Work (MSW) program at New York University. About 5 years ago, I moved to Los Angeles and began working within the LA County Department of Mental Health and Department of Children and Family Services. I was working with a 13 yr old female client who was very suicidal. I was going to her home 3-4 times weekly for therapy sessions to ensure she was safe, had someone to talk to, and could work through her suicidal thoughts. As our time was coming to an end, we wrote each other letters as part of our termination and goodbye process. In her letter to me she wrote, "thank you for letting me realize that life is worth living" THIS is the reason I do what I do.   Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it can change the world for one person. Honestly, that is what motivates me day in and day in. That is what I find so rewarding about my job. I know I am not going to “save” all my clients. I know some will fall through the cracks. But I also know that if I can make an impact on just one child, that I am helping change the world for that one person.   Statistics (from CASA organization): Foster youth in LA is 30,000 33% of California’s foster youth currently reside in LA County 73% of foster youth have spent two or more years in the system 38% of youth have had five or more foster care placements Less than 50% of foster youth graduate from high school and only 3% graduate from college 33% of girls in foster care become pregnant at least once by age 17 25% of youth aging out of foster care will be incarcerated within two years At age 19, 60% of former foster youth are unemployed 27% of the homeless population spent time in foster care Only 3% graduate from college Half of all young adults who age out of foster care end up homeless or incarcerated. 75% of young women in foster care report at least one pregnancy by age 21   We also talk about…   Being in court with her client + the back and forth of cases What drew her to the field of social work Educating others on the foster care system + the money involved in fostering Vetting to be a foster parent How a child ends up in the foster care system Signs of abuse to look out for Working with rauma Preparing for a child a loving family The types of therapies that she uses with her clients Fost-Adopt + adoption and how to go about it in the US The process to work in social work Figuring out boundaries and self-care How we can help   Find more to love at almost30podcast.com!   Resources: Watch: How The Brain Can Change ; Christian the Lion Short Term 12 Nadine Burke on Trauma CASA   Upcoming Events: May 4th: London with Millana Snow May 7th: London with Peta Kelly     Sponsors: Quip | Right now, you can get your first refill pack for free with a quip ole citric toothbrush by using the code ALMOST30 on getquip.com Kopari | Use code ALMOST30 for 15% your first order at koparibeauty.com Article | www.article.com/ALMOST30 for $50 off a purchase of $100 or more Silver Fern | Use code ALMOST30 for 20% off your first order at silverfernbrand.com Get ready L.A., Stacks House is about to make it rain.
