Borderlands 3 has released, as well as NHL 20. We talk about our experiences with both, and (surprise!) how at least one of us likes one of them a lot more than they thought they would. Why is each game worth your time and money? Listen to find out! Gears 5 is out now for those with Game Pass Ultimate, and the reviews so far have been very good for the campaign. We get into what we've seen in terms of reactions to the game, and what we're most looking forward to with the new installment. We also discuss where you can get the announcements, and when the biggest shows of Gamescom are. A new Need For Speed was announced, and we're a little bit split on it. This week, we discuss Ninja moving to Mixer, along with what we like about the Mixer platform. Could we see more content creators moving over to Mixer in the near future? Also, the Outer Worlds will have perma death in their most difficult mode, and we're really excited to see other people try that out. What games have we played that have perma death? 343 had some news about Halo Infinite this week, as they talked about how the new game will perform on the Xbox One X vs the new Scarlett console. Should the game look and play the same on both? GTA has hit yet another milestone, this time almost six years into the life of the game. We discuss the success of one of the biggest games ever. Nintendo dominates the news of the week, as they will be introducing an updated version with a longer battery life. Also, we learned when Luigi's Mansion 3 is releasing this fall, and some very lucky Southwest Airlines passengers were surprised with a new Nintendo Switch on their flight from Dallas to San Diego this week. July 14, 2019
This week, we discuss the announcement of the Nintendo Switch Lite, coming this September day and date with Link's Awakening. How will this console that is handheld only perform when it is launched? Will it still be successful in a year? Sean Murray from Hello Games spoke this week about how developers and publishers like Microsoft, Bethesda, and Electronic Arts should handle rocky launches of online focused games. He draws upon his own experiences with the launch of No Man's Sky, but is he right in saying that publishers and developers should engage with the fanbase less? Amazon Games is developing a free-to-play Lord of the Rings MMO - are we excited for it? Also, Xbox Germany may have accidentally revealed that the Final Fantasy VII remake is coming to Xbox too, and everyone everywhere is denying it. Does that mean it's more likely to be true? July 8, 2019
This week, we return from a short break to discuss Xbox's next-gen plans. While they had previously said that they planned on releasing two consoles at different price points at the start of the next console generation, they seem to have backed off of that assertion lately. Is just one SKU for the next Xbox a good idea? We debate the pros and cons of multiple price points at launch. Also, Electronic Arts is at it again, as they just don't seem to understand why some fans see them as the bad guy. They think it comes down to the games they make and publish, and we disagree. We get into the reasons some gamers don't like EA, and what they can do to fix it. PlayStation responded to fan feedback last week and changed their PS+ offerings for July? Was this a good example of fans voicing concerns in a good way and a company being receptive? Finally, we discuss the success of cross-promotional campaigns in Fortnite and whether other game franchises might be able to follow suit.  To become part of our awesome community, just use the links below: Links: Email: thegaminghubpodcast@gmail.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/725468307840683/ Twitch: www.twitch.tv/txhgaminghub Twitter: https://twitter.com/TXHGamingHub Discord: https://discord.gg/TgjEmdf Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/gaminghub Website: www.thexboxhub.com

June 24, 2019
This week, we give one final look back at E3 after we've had time to sleep and process everything we saw and experienced in the six days we spent covering it in Los Angeles. Also, we spend some time comparing the somewhat negative tone to some of the gaming commentary during E3 versus our own experience from actually being there. But now that E3 is over, the star of the week is Electronic Arts. In a hearing in the UK Parliament, an EA representative stated that loot boxes are not loot boxes; instead, they are surprise mechanics that players love to experience. We discuss the latest way that EA has proven to be completely tone deaf, and their utter refusal to acknowledge what gamers want. Finally, we briefly touch on the rumors that the PlayStation 5 will be more powerful that the Scarlett from Xbox. Are the rumors true? If they are, do we care? Should gamers care, and at what point? We have many giveaways this week (7 in total!) including our E3 Grand Prize giveaway! Listen to the end to hear if your name is called! June 1, 2019
With E3 just a week away, the leaks and reveals are happening in bunches. First, we talk the new Death Stranding trailer which was accompanied by a release date in November 2019. How surprised are we that the highly anticipated game by Hideo Kojima is coming out this year? We also talk about the trailer itself and whether it tells us more about the story. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was officially announced, and we discuss the reveal trailer as well as the feelings by some that the game will be controversial because of the realism and some specific moments within the campaign. Where should the line be in video games? Also, it was accidentally confirmed that Square Enix will be talking about the new Avengers game during their briefing. We talk about a couple of the details we got on the game, and whether it sounds like something we want. Ubisoft is rumored to be revealing a subscription service during their E3 briefing this year - is some of the pushback against this trend within the gaming community valid? Or is more choice a good thing? Finally, Super Mario Maker 2 won't allow friends to play against each other through a play a friend feature. We discuss how Nintendo once again misses the mark when they should have had an easy slam dunk. We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! May 26, 2019
With only two weeks left until E3 2019, news is pretty scarce in the world of gaming. To make up for that, we discuss whether other developers will try to use the wildly successful Fortnite business model to their advantage in other genres, possibly as a way to replace the pay-to-win loot box model. Which games and genres could it work in? We know Sony is skipping E3 altogether, EA isn't holding a briefing this year, and Activision isn't having a booth on the show floor. How much is E3 hurt by these changes and absences? Does it damage the reputation of the show, or does it give an opportunity to other developers and publishers to get more exposure for a year? Sony recently made a statement that all three of their upcoming AAA exclusives will see PS4 releases. We talk whether that means we'll see Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, and The Last of Us 2 before the release of the PS5, or whether it was a way of saying the games will just be released for both consoles. Finally, we preview what Nintendo will bring to this year's E3 in Los Angeles. What new games will we see, and what will the focus of their E3 direct be? We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! May 18, 2019
This week brought news of Xbox and PlayStation working together to make streaming games in the future more smooth and consistent for everyone around. How optimistic are we about where this new partnership will go? It's not going to be life changing, and they're still competitors, but we talk about what it could mean for the future of gaming. Ubisoft revealed how many major releases they'll be putting out in the next year - Spoiler alert: 4 - and we talk about the major upcoming game from Ubisoft that we know isn't included. Skull and Bones, the pirate simulator, was delayed again this week, this time until at least Spring 2020. We try to get over our sadness about the game being pushed back again and not even being at E3 this year to talk about whether this is a good thing for the game. Also, we preview what Ubisoft will have at E3 2019 this year, including what games we expect to see and what the publisher needs to do this year to call E3 a success for them. We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! May 11, 2019
This week, we dig into the legislation proposed in the United States Senate that would severely limit the ability of game developers to include loot box microtransactions in their games. We discuss whether loot crates constitute gambling, and talk about what might happen if developers and publishers lose the revenue stream found through microtransactions. EA Access finally got announced for PlayStation this week, and a new Ghost Recon game is on the way. We discuss Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and talk about whether it's worth picking up in October. Sony also held another State of Play where some new games were announced. We run down the list - some of them have us excited. Respawn has been busy, as 770K players have been banned from Apex Legends since April 1st. Finally, we preview what Bethesda might do at E3 2019, and discuss what they need to do to have a successful showing at the biggest gaming show of the year. May 4, 2019
This week starts our E3 preview content, as we discuss what we might expect to see from Electronic Arts and Square Enix at this year's show. We cover what they've done at E3 in recent years, talk about what they each need to do there this year, and finally, discuss what we expect to see from them this year. In news, Epic has purchased Psyonix, the developer behind Rocket League. What does this mean for Rocket League in the future? Is the small but vocal outcry about this acquisition warranted? Also, we got to see some more Borderlands 3 gameplay this week, and the game looks great. We discuss what we're most looking forward to with the new iteration of Borderlands coming this September. April 20, 2019
This week, we learned a lot about what the PlayStation 5 will bring, as Mark Cerny revealed many of the specs of the upcoming console in an interview. We discuss what to expect from the more powerful console, and what each of the promised features means going for the next generation of consoles. Also, what might this console cost? Another episode of Inside Xbox took place this week, and two significant announcements emerged from it. First, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be available to all Xbox gamers sometime in 2019, and second, the Xbox One S All-Digital console was revealed. We discuss who this console might be for, especially at the price of $249.99 USD. Is Microsoft hurting themselves by putting this price on it? Microsoft also announced the date and time for the Xbox E3 briefing this year, and we chat about what we expect to see there. Finally, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order got a game play trailer at Star Wars Celebration last weekend, and we discuss our suddenly high hopes for the upcoming game from Respawn. This week, we discuss the fact that you can now change your PSN name for $9.99. After finally doing this, should Sony get credit for it? Xbox has six more games hitting Game Pass in April - are any of them worth the download? Also, if you could take part in a real-life battle royale, would you want to? We discuss the potential three day event being proposed to take place on a private island in the near future. Finally, we discuss what counts as cheating in video games? Is taking advantage of a glitch in single player the same as doing it in multiplayer? After this topic had some "gamers" upset this week, we discuss what all the outrage was about and whether it was justified. We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! This week brought more talk of game development and working conditions for developers, as a story broke that Bioware suffered from poor leadership and unfair expectations for its team during the development of Anthem. We discuss the impact this had on the actual game, what EA's role might have been in it, and Bioware's awful response to the article after it was published. What can Bioware do to correct their messaging and operations going forward? Borderlands 3 got a release date, and we're really excited about it. We discuss whether we'd like to see anything different in the new game, or is Borderlands the type of franchise where you just want to see and experience more of the same? Finally, a member of the Royal Family thinks Fortnite should be banned in the U.K., and we think that's preposterous. Why do "leaders" so often focus on video games as a problem while ignoring the real problems we have in the world? We get into that and more this week! We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! This week, Gearbox announced Borderlands 3 with a release by the end of Gearbox's fiscal year. They also announced the Borderlands GOTY remaster with a release date of much much sooner. How excited are we for the remaster and the third game in the series. We discuss how Borderlands has compared to other games in the loot chooter genre and what they need to do this time around. Sony held its first State of Play this week, and a lot of PSVR games were announced, along with updates on some first party titles. Did any of the VR games catch our eye? Spoiler: Iron Man looks pretty cool! Will anything make Graham look forward to Days Gone? He discusses why he just can't get excited for PlayStation's next exclusive. We also cover the rumor that PlayStation might have their version of Amiibos on the way, and the rumor that Nintendo is planning two new versions of the Switch for release this year. Who are they for, and how many will Graham buy? Finally, Ubisoft confirmed their E3 press briefing date and time - will we see the normal proven formula from them again this year? March 23, 2019
GDC was this week, and Google made a huge splash by revealing Stadia as they enter the video game market. Does the new platform represent the future of gaming as a streaming service, or will consoles and physical discs still reign supreme? We discuss the benefits of Google's tech and talk about who this service is ideally for - as well as whether any of us will be adopting Stadia later this year. In addition, Phil Spencer supposedly responded to the Stadia reveal in an internal email to the Xbox team that was leaked. We discuss whether we think the email is true, and more importantly, what Xbox's response to Stadia will be at this year's E3. The Xbox team continues to say they're planning to go big at E3 this year; what could that mean? We talk about what we think will happen at the biggest gaming show of the year. Nintendo announced a bunch of new indie game releases for the Switch, and Konami is celebrating its 50th anniversary with three different collections. Which of these are worth buying? Finally, we discuss Bethesda's reveal of some of its plans for E3, and what surprises they could possibly have in store this year. We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! March 15, 2019
This week, we kick off the show with a big announcement about where the podcast is headed in 2019! In news, there was another Inside Xbox this week, and we recap the biggest announcements from it, including Halo finally coming to PC. Borderlands 3 might finally be on the way after Gearbox teased a very Borderlandsy image this week promising an announcement soon. ESPN is putting on collegiate E-sports competitions this spring, and we think that's a good thing as it brings gaming more exposure. We're really excited about the announcement of Back 4 Blood, the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead by Turtle Rock. We discuss some of our favorite Left 4 Dead memories and talk about what we hope to see from Back 4 Blood. Will it be significantly different from Left 4 Dead, and should it? Finally, Jade Raymond was announced as a VP at Google just ahead of their announcement about Google's vision for the future of gaming. We discuss what Google might be bringing to gaming in the near future. We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! March 8, 2019
This week, we talk about the rumors that Xbox will introduce a disc-less Xbox One S that will go on sale in May. Who is this console for? Is it smart to release it in the early part of the year? Finally, if they're releasing it before E3 this year, what could that mean for their E3 plans as far as announcements go? We don't all agree here, as Steven feels the Xbox One is currently not worth a purchase (we come to Xbox's defense though - a little). Devil May Cry 5 looks great and is scoring very well in reviews so far. Only one of us is getting the game at launch though - why is Graham sold on it and the rest of us aren't? In PlayStation news, the early feedback on Days Gone has been very positive overall. We talk about why and see if we can get Graham to at least think about getting the game next month when it releases. MLB19 also is bringing a couple of new modes this year, and we discuss our feelings about each one. Spoilers: we're really excited about one of them. To wrap up news, EA announced that they will not be holding a press conference at E3 this year, focusing instead on more live streams and a kickoff event on the Friday night before E3. Is it a good idea for EA to skip the conference portion of the event, and why might they have chosen this strategy? We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! March 1, 2019
This week, we talk a lot of Nintendo, as we learned of Pokemon Sword and Shield. Graham and Steven look forward to the game and discuss what they're most looking forward to with the first mainline Pokemon game to come to a console. Also on the Nintendo front, the release date of the Resident Evil 0, 4, and Resident Evil Remastered ports were released this week. Will any of us be buying them? We learned very little about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order last year at E3, but more information is coming at Star Wars Celebration in April. What are we hoping to see from the new Star Wars game Respawn is developing? Also, why can't many Star Wars fans enjoy new Star Wars content? Finally, rumors are swirling about a new Fallout game after Amazon used the countdown image as a placeholder for a new Bethesda game this week, and we might have learned the release date for The Outer Worlds. We discuss all that and more on this week's episode! We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! We begin this week with the news that Reggie Fils-Aime is retiring as president of Nintendo of America effective in April. We take a moment to reflect on his career and celebrate his contributions to gaming and his role as a positive force in the gaming world. Also, we talk in-depth about both Crackdown 3 and Anthem, and our experiences so far with each. It's not all bad, as there are positives for both games. Finally, we dig into Microsoft's first-party games problem in comparison to the exclusives Sony and Nintendo offer on their systems. How did Xbox arrive at this point, and how do they recover? In addition, we discuss the rumor that Xbox Game Pass could be coming to the Nintendo Switch soon and the implications partnerships like that could have on the industry as a whole. We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! This week, Activision announced over 800 jobs were being cut during their quarterly earnings call. We talk about the decision, as well as the outrage from some of the gaming community and the reality that our favorite hobby is also a huge industry where financial results often come first for publishers. In other news, the DICE awards were this week, and God of War did incredibly well again. We discuss that and some of the other winners from the awards. Also, Nintendo had another direct this week where they announced a lot of games coming to the Switch. Some new and some are remakes, but we discuss the biggest announcements here. Finally, Sony's Shawn Layden spoke this week about both the decision for PlayStation to not be at E3 2019 and the possibility that we will be looking at a time where you can play all games regardless of which console you own in the future. We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions - including new voice mail questions -  in our Fan Mail segment! February 10, 2019
This week, The Gaming Hub Podcast discusses the launch of Apex Legends, the new Battle Royale shooter from Respawn. It has received a lot of positive feedback, so how do we like it? Also, what does this mean for the future of Titanfall and for Battlefield V's own battle royale mode, Firestorm. Is Electronic Arts allowing similar games and modes under its umbrella to compete with each other yet again? In other news, Xbox Live will be headed to IOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch soon. We get into what this could mean for the Nintendo Switch, and how much of Xbox Live we think will actually be accessible on the Nintendo platform. Also, we discuss the recent string of collaborations between Xbox and Nintendo, and what that relationship could mean for gaming in the future. Finally, rumors surfaced that the PlayStation 5 will have backwards compatibility - what does that mean for the next gen landscape? In other news, Kingdom Hearts 3 reviews are starting to come in, and Steven shares his thoughts on them thus far. January 20, 2019
With a lot of big new releases now approaching, we discuss the news this week that Anthem will have matchmaking for every activity in the game. Will this make for a more seamless experience in the game, and does it affect our excitement level for Electronic Arts' much hyped competitor to Destiny? Speaking of EA, they also announced more changes to their planned Star Wars offerings this week. With the perception of disorganization and no clear plan for what to do with the Star Wars license, is it time to start asking if EA is the right company to have the license? If they're not, which developer or publisher would we love to see take Star Wars? We get into the latest news and rumors around Star Wars games, including what we know about the upcoming Jedi Fallen Order game. In other news, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is getting a new addition for Blackout, Hitman's developer is getting a second studio, and the real-life Pinkertons aren't happy with Rockstar and Red Dead Redemption 2. Are we more or less excited for the future Destiny 3 based on this announcement? In other news, a new Alien game was announced - and it is a mobile only game. Are fans right to be upset about the game only being available for mobile devices? What are the benefits of the studio to make it mobile only? Also, CES was this week, and that meant the announcement of new TVs for us to feast our eyes on. We discuss two of the ones that really caught our eye, and make guesses as to how much they'll cost. Finally, we take the time to make some predictions for what will happen in the world of gaming in 2019. Will we see The Last of Us 2? Will the PlayStation 5 be announced and revealed? This week, we talk about more Fallout 76 problems, this time surrounding the bag inside the Power Armor Edition of the game. Also, Fortnite is being blamed by some for increased video game addiction in kids - is it fair to place the blame on one game? The Game Awards are this coming week, and we've selected five categories to make predictions for. We give our answers to these questions, as well as discuss how Red Dead Redemption 2 had the highest grossing opening weekend in entertainment history. Electronic Arts announced Project Atlas - what is it and how will it impact gaming both now and in the next generation? Also, Microsoft might be working on a controller for tablets and phones, and we get a small clue as to when we might see The Elder Scrolls VI. We talk about whether this will be the game of the generation, and whether or not The Game Awards will even be necessary this year after Rockstar's newest release. In other news, Sony dominated NPDs for September in both software and hardware, and Xbox announces significant increases in both console sales and Xbox Live users. Xbox Game Pass is also officially coming to PC - when can PC players expect to have access to it? Also, Battlefield V's Firestorm mode gets a release window, a major shakeup at Electronic Arts, and we discuss the newly announced Intellivision Amico console - who is it for and what will it compete with? Finally, we talk about the incredibly expensive Devil May Cry V Ultra Limited Editions. It comes as no surprise that this week's news was dominated by the highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2. Most of the news was great for the game and for its developer Rockstar, but some wasn't. We talk about it all here, starting with breaking down the fantastic Vulture article from earlier in the week detailing the development of the game and some of the features it will have. Next, reports surfaced this week about physical copies of the game not being available for small, independently run retailers until November. We talk about whether this is fair, and what kind of impact losing a major release like this can have on family owned game stores. Conversation this week also turned to working conditions at Rockstar, specifically around the amount of hours employees at the developer put in there. We discuss our thoughts on this aspect of the gaming industry as a whole, and whether or not it's always fair to immediately make anyone involved the villain in the conversation. In other news, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has broken records, Days Gone has been delayed again, and some people just don't know when to stay away until they own up for their mistakes, as a familiar face from 2018 video game news returned this week. We discuss all of that and more, including a little bit of talk about Forza Horizon 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions in our Fan Mail segment, and give the third clue in our biggest giveaway ever! We discuss our favorite Obsidian games and what the developer could bring to the Xbox family. Also, Microsoft announced that the beta for Project xCloud will begin sometime in 2019. What should we expect from the streaming service? Will streaming be the direction video game consoles go in the future? In other news, Sony announced that they are rolling out the beta for PSN users to change their PSN name. We discuss the price point for changing your PSN name, why it needs a beta, and whether we think it is overall a good offering by PlayStation. Finally, Sony also confirmed what we already knew - they are developing a next-gen console right now. We talk next-gen and what the biggest upgrades might be. Also mixed in is some talk about Forza Horizon 4 and our super early thoughts on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions in our Fan Mail segment, and give the second clue in our biggest giveaway ever! October 6, 2018
This week, we start off by giving our early impressions on the newly released Forza Horizon 4 - does it live up to our hopes and expectations? We discuss what we've played so far, along with some of our favorite features in the game. In news, the author of The Witcher is demanding $16 million from CD Projekt Red. We talk about whether the studio should pay the author more than he originally received for the rights to the franchise. A professional sports team has banned Fortnite and gaming in general from road trips in favor of team bonding activities. Can't Fortnite be a team bonding activity too? We discuss the changing relationship between sports and gaming, and whether we think this decision is fair or an overreaction. Also, Telltale has made further personnel decisions, Toys R Us might still be alive, and PlayStation players might actually be able to change their PSN names soon - for real this time! We also detail all the newest releases, and answer community questions in our Fan Mail segment, along giving away the first clue in our biggest giveaway ever! This week, we start off with a major announcement regarding our holiday giveaways for 2018 - including the biggest giveaway we've ever had! The contest starts next week so be sure to listen to the intro for all the details! Sony finally reversed its policy on cross play for the PS4, and we discuss how much of a factor Fortnite was in this decision. Did Sony do this because they wanted to, or did they finally give in to pressure from fans and the PR machine? Which other games would we like to see cross play available for in the future? Microsoft had another Inside Xbox this week, and the focus was on the upcoming Forza Horizon 4. How excited are we for the game? Did the Bond Car Pack or the Halo Showcase Event interest us at all? In addition, Phil Spencer stopped by on the broadcast to tell Major Nelson about mouse and keyboard support coming to the Xbox One, and we discuss the implications of that announcement too. Telltale has pulled The Walking Dead: The Final Season's Season Pass from stores, Red Dead Redemption 2 will offer DLC to PlayStation 30 days before Xbox, and we admit that Graham was right about Nintendo Switch Online's cloud saves. Red Dead Redemption 2 will have a first-person mode - are any of us interested? September 1, 2018
This week, we discuss the Cyberpunk 2077 game play demo that was released to the public - what are we most excited for in the game and does the demo live up to the hype around it coming out of E3? We also share what features impressed us most, and discuss why CD Project Red was right to not show the demo to fans until now. Battlefield V got delayed this week until November 20, and EA says it's so the game can be polished. We discuss whether the real reason is to get away from Call of Duty and Red Dead Redemption in the fall release schedule, especially since Battlefield V has had low pre-order numbers. Xbox has new white versions of the Xbox One X and Elite Controller, and we're really hoping that that isn't what Project Washburn is. Finally, Xbox announced their new games coming to Game Pass in September, and there's a couple of great additions for gamers to enjoy. Finally, we detail the new releases for the upcoming week, and answer community questions in our fan mail segment and conduct our monthly community giveaway for August. This week, there's more developments in the plagiarism scandal, and we get into a further discussion about that and what it means for the individual going forward, as well as close the door on the discussion on our end. In other gaming news, Bethesda has given more details about how they will combat griefing in the upcoming Fallout 76 game, and we detail those things in this episode. Do we think that it will truly eliminate griefing, or will players just get more creative when trying to ruin the experience for other players? This week, we discuss the recently released Red Dead Redemption 2 game play trailer - is it everything we hoped it would be? Also, we discuss what features we most want to see in the highly anticipated game, as well as our hopes for multiplayer in Red Dead 2. We discuss that, as well as our thoughts on the announcements for the Fallout 76 beta made this week by Bethesda. Madden 19 released this week, and we have our thoughts on that game too. Finally, we discuss the plagiarism scandal that took over the gaming world this week. How big of a deal is it? Did IGN respond the right way? We pause from our normal show format to discuss the book Blood, Sweat, and Pixels by Jason Schreier from Kotaku. It's a great book that dives into the stories of game development from various games, and we wanted to take some time to talk about it!
August 5, 2018
This week, we discuss the Early Access program on Xbox as We Happy Few prepares for the launch of its full game on the 10th. When is Early Access a good idea for a game, and should players be OK with essentially being game testers? We also discuss this in the context of games like Sea of Thieves, DayZ, and more. A FIFA player discovered that he spent over $14K on Ultimate Team over the course of two years - what are our thoughts on the mode in sports games, and is it the same as microtransactions in games like Battlefront or Overwatch? Finally, people are paying for Fortnite lessons for their kids(and themselves) and we discuss why this is suddenly a thing. Would our parents have ever coughed up cash for video game lessons? And when did just playing the game to get better stop being the way to go? Also, Microsoft is doing something amazing with the shipping packaging for people who order the adaptive controller, and we discuss this as part of Microsoft's commitment to inclusion in gaming. We talk about what Bethesda's goals might be for a beta only a month or so prior to launch. Also, for anyone that loved Fallout: New Vegas, we have some bad news for you. Video games could be part of the Olympics as soon as 2024 - should they be included, and which games would be the central focus of Olympic competition? Additionally, he talks about what it's like to be an independent game developer and they challenges he and his team face when developing a game. Nintendo recently announced in their shareholder's call that they wanted to release 20-30 indie games per week on the Nintendo Switch. Do we think this is a good idea, and will it turn into a case of quantity over quality? We discuss the possibility of some great games getting lost in the shuffle because of the sheet amount of titles being released every week on the system. Finally, we detail the new releases for the upcoming week for each of the major consoles, and answer fan mail questions. What are our thoughts on SCUF controllers? This week, we dive into Sony's response to the cross-play controversy as we discuss the statement put forth by PlayStation regarding it. Are they serious about looking at a way to bring cross-play to the PlayStation, or are they just buying time? We also discuss whether we really care about cross-play on consoles, and if cross-play is really something companies should feel obligated to provide. Compared to locking the Epic account for PS4 Fortnite players, is cross-play really that big of a deal? Halo is officially getting a series on Showtime, as the long rumored show was confirmed with production beginning early next year. How many of us are excited for it? Also, Amy Hennig left Electronic Arts months ago and the Cyberpunk 2077 demo shown behind closed doors at E3 was pre-alpha - does it change our thoughts on when the game will be released? We detail all of the new releases for the coming week, as well as the new Games With Gold and PS+ titles for July 2018. E3 just ended, so there's very little news in the gaming world. Therefore, on the heels of the Gamestop news this week, we talk about the future of console gaming. Are digital downloads and subscription services the way of the future? Will physical copies and disc drives in consoles ever really go away? Finally, we discuss whether a company like Gamestop can truly survive and thrive as the landscape of console gaming changes. In addition, we briefly talk about the announcement of NHL 19 at the NHL Awards show this past week, and we announce community tournaments and community play events that will be taking place starting in late July. E3 2018 is over, and we're here to sum up what we saw this week and give you all of our top moments. Spoiler alert: the answer is yes! In addition, we talk about Sony's decision to lock the Fortnite accounts for PS4 players to their console, not allowing player progression to travel between systems. Was this a good move by Sony, or could it backfire on them with their loyal fan base? Finally, we discuss Microsoft stating that they are deep into development on the next Xbox console, and the rumors that the next generation of consoles will arrive in 2020. Is that the right time to introduce a new generation, and how many games that we saw at E3 this year will be next gen games? This week, we celebrate both 2 years and 100 episodes as we look forward to E3 2018 this weekend. We also do four giveaways on this episode to members of our community that submitted questions! Crackdown 3 was delayed once again - what does this mean for the Microsoft conference at E3 this year, and for Xbox in general? Does it give us reason to be worried, and does it signal that they may have something that we haven't anticipated ready to announce on Sunday? Finally, we're so happy to have been joined by Parris Lilly, co-host of Gamertag Radio, for an extended interview on the show. He talks about how he got into podcasting, his favorite memories attending E3, how he got to give Phil Spencer direct feedback on Kinect, and what he's most looking forward to at E3 this year. We have extensive E3 coverage planned for this year, with a new episode dedicated to each major conference starting with Electronic Arts on Saturday, all the way through Nintendo on Tuesday. Please subscribe so you never miss a moment of our coverage, and use the links below to join our awesome and growing community! It's almost time for E3 2018, and we have our predictions for this year's show ready to go! We talk games like Halo, Fallout, Zelda, Mass Effect, and more. Which company do we think will come out on top, and what do they have to do to emerge victorious at this year's show? In news, we talk about the reveals of Fallout 76 and Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - are we sick of companies ruining potential E3 surprises? Also, Bungie is getting a large investment allowing them to become a multi-franchise studio. Are we excited for more games from the Halo and Destiny developer? We also detail the new games hitting stores this next week, as well as the new games hitting Games With Gold and PS+ in June. As always, we answer community qurestions in our fan mail segment. We have a lot of E3 coverage planned this year, including pre and post shows for every single conference about console gaming, so be sure to subscribe in order to never miss a thing! May 29, 2018
On this special episode of The Gaming Hub, we take a look at E3 2018 and each company, anticipating what they might have up their sleeves at the biggest gaming show of the year. Will EA bring more than Anthem and Battlefield V? How excited is Steven for Kingdom Hearts? We talk about what Bethesda ahs to do to keep their amazing momentum from previous E3 shows, and what Ubisoft has to do in order to not leave us feeling "meh" about their show. As for the big three, we know Nintendo has Pokemon and Smash Brothers to show off this year, but what else is Graham hoping to see from his favorite console maker? We dig into whether Sony is the runaway favorite to "win" E3 in 2018 and what would have to happen for them to lose, as well as what Microsoft has to deliver this year in what is a pivotal E3 for the Xbox. We have a lot of E3 coverage planned this year, including pre and post shows for every single conference about console gaming, so be sure to subscribe in order to never miss a thing! Battlefield V was revealed this week, with new modes, no Premium Pass, and a return to the World War II setting. Is this the game we wanted from DICE, and will the (sort of) Battle Royale mode in it appeal to us as gemers? We discuss the war stories, Combined Arms, and how Grand Operations will add an element of Battle Royale to the game. Ultimately, now that we've seen both Battlefield V and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, which do we think we'll be playing more of come October? We also discuss the loaded October release schedule, how Death Stranding will rely on collaboration, and the rumors that Nintendo will be developing a Nintendo 64 mini console for release. Finally, for fans of Madden, it's coming out early this year - how excited are we? We detail all new releases for each console in our releases segment, and answer plenty of questions in our fan mail segment at the end of the show. To be entered for future giveaways, join our community and submit questions to be read on the show. May 19, 2018
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was revealed this week, and we have our reactions ready. Does the lack of single player in the new game bother us, and what do we think about the new Battle Royale mode called Blackout? Aside from Call of Duty, are we happy that Battle Royale is the new trend in gaming? We discuss the likelihood that the new craze will become a staple in all shooter games going forward. There were more delays this week, including Ubisoft's Skull and Bones, which was delayed until 2019. We discuss whether it's better to delay a game (sometimes even multiple times) or to keep the release date promise and continue to support the game post-release to make the experience better. Do games like The Division, Sea of Thieves, and the original Titanfall deserve second chances months or more after release? We detail all new releases for each console in our releases segment, and answer plenty of questions in our fan mail segment at the end of the show. To be entered for future giveaways, join our community and submit questions to be read on the show. This week, Nintendo announced their online service for just $20 per year, but is it a good value? We get into a spirited discussion about the features it does and does not offer, and we don't all agree on whether or not it is a good service. In other news, Sony finally announced it's E3 conference date and time - is it a change from years past? Walmart Canada has appeared to ruin a good portion of the upcoming surprise announcements at E3, and we take the time to both blame Graham and discuss the potential announcements and how much impact they will have.  Finally, what steps is Microsoft taking to close the gap in exclusive titles with Sony? We detail all new releases for each console in our releases segment, and answer plenty of questions in our fan mail segment at the end of the show. To be entered for future giveaways, join our community and submit questions to be read on the show. This week marked the release of the third trailer of Rockstar's highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2. What were our reactions? And what are we hoping to see in the new game when it releases this fall? Also, Destiny 2 has the Warmind expansion incoming - will it be enough to get any of us back into the game? Season 4 of Fortnite started this week, and one of our hosts is going to start playing it more, as well as stremaing. What do the changes mean for the game and what has been the secret of its success? Finally, we talk about Xbox's increased console sales and we list our top five PlayStation 4 games that we've played so far. We detail all new releases for each console in our releases segment, and answer plenty of questions in our fan mail segment at the end of the show, including conducting our monthly giveaway! April 28, 2018
We apologize for the technical issues very early in the episode. For the first few minutes, Graham's voice is choppy, but it corrects itself in the first 10 minutes. Thanks for your understanding and support! With Ashland University announcing that they will offer scholarships to players for a Fortnite E-Sports team, does this signal the beginning of the NCAA getting into gaming as a competitive sport? The Gaming Hub team discusses this question and a lot more of this week's gaming news, including Nintendo's E3 conference announcement, Sony's insane console sales numbers, and what we would like to see from the upcoming Nintendo online service. In addition, Graham and Steve debate whether God of War or Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the better choice if someone has $60 to spend. We detail the releases for the upcoming week and the new free games for May, including Xbox's impressive Games With Gold lineup for the month before E3. Finally, we answer some great questions from the community in our weekly Fan Mail segment. Use any of the links below to become part of our great and growing community! April 21, 2018
This week marked the release of the PlayStation 4's highly anticipated God of War, and reviews were overwhelmingly positive. However, the release also brought out some negativity, and we discuss the reaction to some reviews and posts regarding Sony's hugely anticipated game. When does a review deserve criticism? Also, Steve has had a chance to play a little of God of War, and we get his thoughts on the game. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 might not have a campaign when it releases this fall, and we discuss the impact that might have on the game, and what the overall strategy for Activision is here. In addition, Dark Souls Remastered gets a delay on the Nintendo Switch, and we discuss the top games that you can play on the Xbox One right now in case you can't play God of War on the PlayStation. Where did games like Halo 5, The Witcher 3, Grand Theft Auto V, and Sunset Overdrive rank for us? Finally, we break down the biggest upcoming releases on all three major consoles, as well as answer questions from the community in our Fan Mail segment. April 14, 2018
This week, Rare released their content update strategy for Sea of Thieves through the summer - will it be enough to satisfy players that don't feel there is enough content in the game? We discuss this, as well as the problem Microsoft faces this year with having little in the way of top-tier exclusives to put up against Sony's God of War and Spiderman. Speaking of God of War, it's coming out soon, and we hear it's pretty good. We discuss the early reviews of the upcoming PlayStation exclusive and talk about how excited we are to get our hands on it next week. In addition, Xbox is releasing another 19 games in backwards compatibility, and we discuss whether this is really a viable strategy in opposition to Sony's new AAA games. There's actually other games coming out next week alongside God of War, and we get you the info on those too, as well as answer questions in our fan mail segment.
