YESTERDAY’S NEWS -- Tales of classic scandals, scoundrels and scourges told from historic newspapers in the golden age of yellow journalism...
The Tragic Despair Of Etta Butts
Episode 349 is dedicated to loyal listener Kellie Fenner who wanted to hear more about this case from her hometown Grand Rapids, Michigan, the sad sad story of a mother who committed the unthinkable act of murdering her own children. I actually did the research on this one during a camping tour of Michigan, and since it came up a little shorter than a normal episode, I’m including a revamped version of episode 67, another tragic story from Michigan, this one from the Upper Peninsula mining community of Calumet. We spent quite a bit of time in Calumet this trip, and I visited the memorial to this tragedy and paid my respects to the victims. You can read more about it on my social media channels or at www.truecrime
Culled from the historic pages of the Grand Rapids Herald, the Grand Rapids Press, and other newspapers of the era.
