Why did it feel so real if they were never really choosing you?
In this episode of You’re Probably Right, MCM talks about the kind of relationship that can leave you more confused than an actual breakup.
Because sometimes there was never a clean beginning.
And because of that, there was never a clean ending.
Somebody came into your life, got closer than almost anyone else, received your help, your patience, your attention, your care, your loyalty, and maybe even your body, but still never gave you the clarity, concern, or commitment you kept hoping would eventually come.
And the hardest part may not be that they left.
The hardest part may be realizing that you saw some of the signs earlier than you want to admit.
The inconsistency.
The dishonesty.
The boundary crossing.
The emotional attachment to somebody else.
The way you kept explaining things away because caring about them made the truth harder to face.
This episode is about chemistry, emotional confusion, overgiving, unequal attachment, mixed signals, self-betrayal, and what happens when you realize somebody was capable of caring deeply, just not that way with you.
It also moves past the diagnosis and into the practical question:
How do you actually build the force field?
How do you act when you still have to see them?
How do you stop turning a glance into a three-hour investigation?
How do you stop collecting information about someone who is no longer offering you a relationship?
How do you stay polite, brief, and closed without becoming cruel?
MCM talks about surprise contact, emotional access, nostalgia, anger, workplace proximity, nervous-system reactions, and why the real goal is not to prove you do not care.
The real goal is to stop giving them information about whether you care at all.
Because they do not need access to that anymore.
They do not need to know whether you miss them.
They do not need to know whether you are jealous.
They do not need to know whether their new relationship bothers you.
They do not need relationship-level access while offering no relationship.
If you have ever kept giving, forgiving, helping, listening, hoping, replaying, and wondering why they seemed to care so deeply about someone else but barely showed up for you, this episode is for you.
Maybe the force field is not something they feel.
Maybe the force field is for you.
It is the distance between what they do and what you allow it to become.
