Is he emotionally available?
And if he cares, why won’t he communicate openly?
In this episode of You’re Probably Right, MCM answers one of the most frustrating questions women ask when a man seems present in some ways but emotionally hard to reach in others.
Emotional availability does not mean a man walks around with a perfect inventory of his feelings.
It does not mean he always knows what he feels.
It does not mean he never gets defensive.
It does not mean he cries on command, explains everything immediately, or always says the right thing.
An emotionally available man is still a man with fear, pride, embarrassment, anger, history, blind spots, and things he may not know how to put into words.
The difference is willingness.
Is he willing to stay in the room when the conversation becomes uncomfortable?
Is he willing to hear what you feel?
Is he willing to tell the truth about what is happening inside him?
Is he willing to come back after saying, “I don’t know”?
Is he willing to take responsibility for the impact of his behaviour, even when hurting you was not his intention?
MCM explores why “we need to talk” can make a man defensive, why some men try to fix the problem instead of listening, why silence is not always rejection, why practical care can matter, and why practical care still cannot replace emotional honesty.
This episode also looks at emotional safety, male vulnerability, anger, shame, privacy, concealment, past wounds, repair, forgiveness, and the difference between a man who is still learning and a man who is only making excuses.
Some men were taught to suppress emotion.
Some men were never shown how to express it.
That history may explain the difficulty.
But the present pattern reveals the willingness.
If months pass and he still avoids every difficult conversation, gives you only the surface of himself, becomes expressive only when you are ready to leave, and never builds trust, respect, openness, or repair, then the explanation is no longer enough.
You have to believe the pattern.
This episode is for anyone who has ever wondered whether a man is emotionally unavailable, emotionally immature, afraid to communicate, trying but struggling, or simply unwilling to become visible inside the relationship.
Because an emotionally available man is not a man with no walls.
He is a man who understands that the person he loves cannot build a life with him if he never creates a door.
He may open it slowly.
He may need help finding the handle.
But he does not ask you to stand outside forever and call that patience.
