The recent mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, has again sparked the debate over not only the "assault" rifle issue, but also the broader gun rights discussion. Whether it's the mainstream media, an elected official or your brother-in-law, the motivations, goals and historic perspective of the Founding Fathers are rarely, if ever, addressed by those who wish to disarm law-abiding American citizens of their firearms. If one believes in the Constitution and specifically the Bill of Rights, one must know how and why the Founders came to put these ideals to paper and what it means to us today.
