This episode will be hosted by Marianna Seal and Liberty Turner. Seal and Turner will discuss the impacts of Attorney Sarah Kilgore Wertman, Attorney Grace G. Costavas Murphy, Judge Dorothy Comstock Riley and Judge Cornelia Kennedy. Attorney Wertman was the first woman to graduate from the University of Michigan Law School, and the first woman admitted to the Michigan bar. Attorney Costavas Murphy was Michigan’s first African-American woman lawyer. Judge Riley was the first woman to serve on the Michigan Court of Appeals and the first Latina elected to any state supreme court in the United States. Chief Judge Kennedy became the first female chief judge of a federal district court, serving from 1977 to 1979. All of these incredible women attorneys and judges paved the way for many more.
