Lesley Norman, The WNET Group Executive Director of National Programming, recently visited WNET Up Next to share news about several exciting program initiatives coming to WNET and PBS this spring.First up on the schedule is the four part My Grandparents’ War, which premiered on Sunday April 4th at Inside the Met, originally designed to coincide with the 150th Anniversary of the founding of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, instead looks at the Met in the context of a year where the museum needed to close due to the coronavirus pandemic; and how, in a year of unrest, the institution must reexamine its place in society. The three chapters of the program will air on Friday, May 21 at Finally, Monday May 31 at 9:00PM is the premiere broadcast of Tulsa: The Fire and the Forgotten, the saga of the infamous Tulsa racial massacre of 1921 that decimated an African-American community, a story hidden from history for many years.Lesley also shares with host Tom Stewart her responsibilities in bringing programs to fruition and why she enjoys the collaborative process, particularly working with producers.
