Our greatest fear in life should not be of failure but of succeeding at things that don’t really matter.
– Francis Chan
How does failure haunt us?
We are reminded of our defeats
We are reminded of our deficiencies
We are reminded of our downfalls
We are reminded of our derailments
We are reminded of our disappointments
The reality of failure
Failure is a common experience
Failure is rarely the end
It’s only a bad mistake if it’s your last mistake
Failure should never establish us
Failure can lead to greater effectiveness
Failure can bring different responses
Frustration
Fatigue
Futility
For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
– 2 Timothy
Moving beyond failure requires a right perspective
Success flows to lives that are prepared
Success flows to lives that are presented
Success flows to lives that purpose filled
Moving beyond failure requires personal persistence
Moving past failures means that we have to fight
Moving past failures means that we have to finish
Moving past failures means that we need faith
Moving beyond failure requires concentration on the prize
We lose concentration because we are distracted
We lose concentration because we are dismayed
We lose concentration because we are disgruntled
We lose concentration because we are discouraged
How do we handle failure?
Be inspired to keep going
Be intense in effort
Be inclined to continue searching
Be influenced by Christ’s example
