Ethiopia and Eritrea have been in conflict since the twentieth century which intensified into war that lasted from 1998 to 2002. With UN involvement, a border agreement was drafted but Ethiopia objected to parts of the contract. As of 2020, tensions have risen in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia that borders Eritrea.
