Megan Beace, LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in supporting clients in a super commuter relationship, overwhelmed women, and gifted girls. She shares her personal story of how their family became a “super commuter couple” when her husband took a job in New York, half a continent away from their home in Minneapolis. She defines super commuter is someone who travels 90 or miles from their home to a place of employment. In some families, the commuters are gone from Monday until Thursday or Friday each week, but in other situations, one of the partners can be gone for weeks or even months at a time.
The number of commuting wage-earners in growing. In the United States, it is estimated that over 3 million are long-distance commuters to their jobs.
