Magic, an AI software startup based in San Francisco, is in discussions to raise $200 million at a $1.5 billion valuation despite lacking revenue or a market-ready product. Five months ago, the company raised $117 million led by NFDG Ventures with CapitalG and Elad Gil participating. The anticipated new funding round is expected to include Jane Street Capital as an investor. Magic, founded in 2022, has accumulated $145 million in total funding so far. The AI software development sector continues to attract significant investment, with notable examples including Builder.ai, which raised over $250 million, and Augment, which secured $227 million for AI coding support. San Francisco-based Cognition also raised $175 million at a $2 billion valuation and developed an AI-powered coding assistant named Devin. AI's potential to enhance software development efficiency and reduce costs drives investor interest.
