In 1996, a gang mistakenly shot and killed a four-year-old while targeting a rival gang member in a carpool. Timothy McGruder was later convicted without evidence based on a plea deal from a man involved in crimes with his brother. McGruder's lawyer failed to prove his innocence of him and violated his 6th Amendment rights. He has been serving a life sentence for over 20 years for a crime he didn't commit.
