He was an American military war hero. President James Madison is his second cousin, and he participated in the War of 1812. He did not take sides on the issue of enslavement during the election. His daughter was briefly married to Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederate States of America shortly before his death. And this President died in office. His name is Zachary Taylor, and he’s our nation's 12th President.
