Hello everyone, and welcome back to Your English Update, a podcast by EZOnlineEnglish.

Congratulations! You’ve made it to the end of season one! We’ve learned over forty different expressions together over the last nine weeks. Now, it’s time to have some fun! In this episode, we are going to test your pronunciation skills with some Tongue Twisters! Tongue Twisters are expressions that have repeating sounds that even English-speakers have difficulty saying. You probably will hear me stumble over my words too! We will be providing the translations for context, but understand that these are just silly or nonsensical expressions. They are only for fun and they don’t really have any meaning besides testing to see if you can say them faster than your friends! Alright, you ready? Let’s go!

Alright before we begin, I wanted to let you know that for every Tongue Twister I will be saying them multiple times so you can have a chance to try them too!

She sells seashells down by the seashore.

她在海边卖贝壳。

As you heard, this expression is meant to test your pronunciation of the letter S. Let’s try it again. Repeat after me, “She sells seashells down by the seashore.” Okay, one more time! “She sells seashells down by the seashore.” It’s tough right? Okay, let’s try the next one.

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.

彼得派珀挑了一配克腌胡椒。

Here we are testing out how well you can say the sound of the letter P. Also, a peck is a unit of measurement that is equal to about four and a half kilograms. Okay, are you ready to try it again? “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.” Okay, one more time! “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.”

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

如果土拨鼠会扔木头它会扔多少木头?

So maybe you heard me while I was saying it, but this one kind of has a rhythm to it! I’ll say it a little slower so you can hear it. “How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?” It’s testing your pronunciation of the CH and also the double OO sound. Let’s say it again, “How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?”

Okay, let’s give our tongues a rest for a moment, and we will take a quick break. If you haven’t already, please do check out ezonlinenglish.com. There you can find all of the translations and transcripts for all of the episodes if you are having trouble understanding me. That is the letter E and Z online English dot com.

I wish to wish the wish you wish to wish.

我想许你想许的愿望。

There’s lots of repetition here! This expression is testing both the W and -SH sounds. To say it another way, this expression means: I hope to wish the wish that you hoped to make. If that makes sense… It's very confusing! Okay, let’s try again, “I wish to wish the wish you wish to wish.” Okay, one more time, “I wish to wish the wish you wish to wish.” Okay we have one more. Let’s go!

Which wristwatches are Swiss wristwatches?

哪些手表是瑞士手表?

I really have trouble with this one! This Tongue Twister is testing your pronunciation of the letter W. So let’s test it out again, if I can say it! “Which wristwatches are Swiss wristwatches?” Can you do it? Okay, let’s try one more time, “Which wristwatches are Swiss wristwatches?” I can’t say this one fast at all. I have to read it very slowly to say it correctly.

Okay, it’s time to review all of these Tongue Twisters. Let’s see if you can repeat them after me.

She sells seashells down by the seashore.

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

I wish to wish the wish you wish to wish.

Which wristwatches are Swiss wristwatches?
