This conversation with Dan Roodt is a passionate defence of Afrikaner identity, language, and cultural survival. Roodt frames the Afrikaner story as a constant struggle against empire, from the Dutch East India Company through the British empire to the current ANC regime.
Roodt sees South Africa as a failed state but views Afrikaners as resilient, deeply rooted in Africa, and possessed with an organisational capacity that could yet see them through.
He is optimistic about the future of Afrikaans, particularly because of the Internet. He believes Afrikaner literature and experience have something valuable to offer the broader Western world.
