This week on Two Guys, What’s Up?, Iain takes us down a lonely stretch of road on Dartmoor for the chilling tale of the Devonshire Hairy Hands.
For more than a century, motorists travelling near Postbridge have reported something bizarre taking control of their vehicles: a pair of disembodied, hairy hands appearing on the steering wheel, gripping tightly and attempting to force them off the road. Are they the ghostly hands of a long-dead driver? A curse haunting the moors? Or does Dartmoor simply have Britain’s most aggressive driving instructor?
Then Jordan turns his attention to redundant sayings—the unnecessary words and phrases we use every day without giving them a second thought. Things like saying “ATM machine,” even though the M already stands for machine, or declaring, “Never in my whole entire life,” when whole and entire are apparently doing the same job—and perhaps neither is needed if you’ve already said never in my life.
The only problem is that us guys disagree over what actually counts as redundant. Is it pointless repetition, or does it add emphasis? Are we wasting words, or is Jordan just trying to dismantle the English language one sentence at a time?
So we need your help! Listen along and let us know whose side you’re on—because one of us is clearly wrong, and it would be really helpful if the audience could confirm that it’s Jordan.
