In the early morning hours of the 8th of November 1988, the yacht Patanela radioed Sydney Maritime Radio Centre advising that it was 10 nautical miles east of Botany Bay and apparently out of fuel, and might require assistance through Sydney Heads. 

Two more calls were made before The Patanela was never heard from again.

The disappearance of the Patanela is still considered one of Australia's greatest sea mysteries since it vanished without a trace.
