Kyteler’s Inn in Kilkenny is one of Ireland’s most famous medieval pubs, but its reputation reaches far beyond food, music and old stone walls.
At the centre of its story is Alice Kyteler, a wealthy fourteenth-century woman accused of witchcraft, poisoning and dealings with the Devil. While Alice escaped, others connected to her case paid a terrible price, and her name has remained tied to the inn ever since.
But is Kyteler’s Inn truly haunted, or has centuries of folklore transformed a complicated historical case into one of Ireland’s most enduring supernatural legends?
In this episode of True Hauntings, Anne and Renata explore the story of Alice Kyteler, the paranormal claims linked to the inn, reports of a mysterious woman in black, unexplained cold spots, shadowy photographs and the suggestion that Alice herself may still be present.
We also examine where these haunting stories began, how they changed over time, and whether the evidence points to genuine paranormal activity, mistaken identity, atmospheric storytelling or a legend that has grown stronger with every retelling.
Was Alice Kyteler really a witch, a victim of fear and politics, or something more complicated? And does her restless legacy still linger inside Kyteler’s Inn?
Listen as we weigh the history, the witness accounts and the inconsistencies to ask the question at the heart of every case:
Is this truly a haunting?
