Former NFL scout Blaise Taylor was living what looked like a dream career until prosecutors accused him of turning a glass of pink lemonade into a murder weapon. They alleged he secretly mixed a lethal dose of cocaine into a drink and served it to his pregnant girlfriend, Jade Benning, who was five months pregnant with their daughter, Ivy. As the poison took effect, Jade managed to call her best friend and left the line open, capturing a horrifying confrontation that would later become one of the most powerful pieces of evidence presented to a jury.
Investigators uncovered a troubling history showing Taylor had repeatedly expressed that he did not want to become a father. Witnesses testified he had pressured Jade to have an abortion and even asked a former girlfriend years earlier to secretly slip abortion pills into another pregnant woman's drink. Combined with forensic evidence, toxicology results revealing extraordinarily high cocaine levels, and testimony from medical experts, prosecutors argued the poisoning was carefully planned rather than an accident or overdose.
After listening to just over a week of testimony, the jury deliberated for less than two hours before finding Blaise Taylor guilty of the murders of Jade Benning and their unborn daughter, Ivy. The verdict brought an end to a years-long investigation built on forensic science, witness testimony, and Jade's final recorded words. Taylor was sentenced to life in prison and, under Tennessee law, will not be eligible for parole for more than five decades while his attorneys pursue an appeal.
