Our Feature Segments
A Key Bible verse for Transformed Living: Luke
2:10-11
10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Let’s dig into this verse together: The Greatest News in all of the world is found in these two verses:
I. The Messenger – the angel – v. 10
II. The Message – v. 11 (It’s a three-fold message)
“Do not be afraid,
I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord
III. The Method – v. 11
God sent His Son Jesus Christ to be born as a baby in the city of David. The best way to reach a world of people, is to become fully human, and this is what Jesus did. But He wasn’t just human, He was also fully God, and as God Jesus became our Savior. He went to the cross and took our sins upon Himself.
A baby born in a manger would later die on a cross. And He did all of this for us. Now, that is something to have JOY over this Christmas.
A Key Biblical Principle for Transformed Living: Slow down and take time for Christmas
Read the Scripture Accounts from various translations
Matthew 1-2 – the birth of Jesus and the visit of the wise men.
Luke 1-2 – the announcement to Mary about Jesus birth, and the birth of Jesus, and the visit by the shepherds.
John
Listen to some great Christmas music
Can you hear the soft Christmas music playing in the background as I record this podcast? It’s Christmas music, and I’m really enjoying it.
Do you have a favorite Christian radio station? Is it on right now? (We’ll not right now, but you know what I mean). Do you have a collection of Christmas CD’s? We do, and we bring them out every Christmas.
What is your favorite Christmas song? I personally like:
Silent Night
I heard the bells on Christmas Day
The First Noel
Joy to the World
Watch the Christmas Classics – Christmas Movies
I like the old move, It’s a Wonderful Life. But I also like the cartoon by Dr. Schultz – The Charlie Brown Christmas. And who doesn’t like, Home Alone I, or Santa Claus I?
Grab some popcorn, turn on the television and watch a classic this Christmas. Pause long enough to actually enjoy Christmas. Stop RUSHING and RELAX some.
Attend Church and a Christmas Eve service
Go and be with your Forever Church family.
Go and be inspired by the Christmas message that your pastor will bring.
Go and listen afresh to the great Christmas songs, and you, yes you, join in and sing.
Go and just enjoy all that God promised by sending His Son, Jesus Christ into the world.
A Book for Transformed Living:  The Purpose of Christmas by Pastor Rick Warren
4 Chapters and 85 pages
The Purpose of Christmas
A Time for Celebration
A Time for Salvation
A Time for Reconciliation
Hailed by The Economist as the “the most influential pastor in America,” and by Time as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, the bestselling author of The Purpose Driven Life expounds on the profound origins of Christmas, describing it as an opportune time to welcome peace into our lives.
In his powerful yet compassionate voice, Pastor Rick Warren sounds the clarion call to “remember the reason for the season,” taking readers back in time to the most wonderful story of all—the birth of the baby Jesus. When he was just a small boy, young Rick asked his parents if they could celebrate Christmas with a birthday party for Jesus—and the tradition began that the Warrens have upheld for over fifty years. Now through stirring imagery and compelling personal insights, The Purpose of Christmas honors the significance and promise of this cherished holiday. Pastor Warren encourages readers to identify and confront what drains peace from their lives. Warren explains that the way to respond to these peace robbers is to learn how to surrender to God’s will and not feel defeated or discouraged when life does not go as planned. True peace of mind is found by having an unshakeable faith in God—knowing that His empowering Spirit will guide His children through life’s challenges.
Beautifully written, The Purpose of Christmas will stir readers to honor the true significance of Christmas and to nurture God’s gifts of love and peace in this world.
