Today on Too Opinionated, we're joined by actress, storyteller, mental health advocate, and speaker Martina Kelades to discuss her starring role in the powerful new Bell Fibe TV1 original series Things Like These.
Premiering this summer, Things Like These is a dark comedy with absurdist elements that explores grief, resilience, family, and the complicated ways people cope with trauma. Martina stars as Veruca James, a widowed mother desperately trying to keep her family together after unimaginable loss while struggling to confront emotions she's spent a lifetime avoiding.
The series shines a light on difficult but important conversations surrounding mental health, generational trauma, grief, and healing, particularly within Black families, delivering an emotional story filled with heart, humor, and hope.
Beyond Things Like These, Martina has quickly become one of Canada's rising talents with appearances in Boston Blue, The Institute, We Were Liars, Sullivan's Crossing, From, Moonshine, and Diggstown.
Before acting, Martina built a career in social services before launching a successful mental health consulting and speaking business focused on burnout recovery, resilience, and personal transformation. Her lived experiences continue to shape both her performances and her work inspiring others through storytelling.
