Too Cute to be Scary

Bree Bracey and Morganne Melcher
We're two film-loving pals who have spent countless hours watching movies together and discussing/debating them afterwards, so we decided to share the horrifying fun. The first Friday of every month we will be discussing a new horror movie, so grab some popcorn (and maybe a friend) to watch the movie and be a part of our conversation. The movies might be scary, but we promise that we aren't!
OCTOBER SPOOKTACULAR #3: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
This is a big one folks, one we've been texting about for the past two weeks in excitement. For our October Spooktacular Episode #3, we pulled out all the stops starting with..... Morganne having a bit of a mental breakdown. This episode has tons of conversation actually about the movie, if you can believe it. We discuss the stupidity of the teenagers, the wholesomeness of the cast behind the scenes, and if we would stop for someone crying and bleeding on the side of the road. Since this is a disturbing film, a big TW for violence and assault along with a warning that we do discuss slaughterhouses and meat hooks! Don't worry, we also talk about the incredibly fun Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010), dir. Eli Craig. This movie is a great scary movie to watch with your friends this month if you're just looking to have a fun time! Morganne also declares their love for Alan Tudyk (sorry not sorry to their partner). It's heeeeeere! Happy Spooky month, friends! For our first episode of our October Spooktacular, we are diving into Bree's first 10/10 film The VVitch (2015), dir. Robert Eggers 🩸πŸͺ“. This film has everything you could want in a witch film and Anya Taylor-Joy's performance is one for the books. We discuss Bree's connections to hares and debate if this film has a feminist ending or not!  This film is Zaddy Approved βœ… Support us on Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/toocutetobescary for exclusive content this month as we cover some of our favorite Halloween TV episodes from our childhood! Alien (1979)
Happy Fall! Thank goodness. It's finally officially our favorite season. This month we are taking you wayyyy out there to space so we can discuss Alien (1979), dir. Ridley Scott. We talk about a lot, as always, but especially the phallic symbolism, sexism,  and really tiny underwear prominent in this film. While we love a feminist icon, does she really have to be wearing *that* small of underwear?? Or was this film just directed by a man? πŸ‘€ As per usual, please rate, review and subscribe to us wherever you listen to podcasts, support us on Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/toocutetobescary and follow us on Instagram @TooCutetobeScaryPod, @alymcbree, and @morgannemelcher. The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
Happy last month of summer, friends! Today we are headed up on one last summer vacation to The Cabin in the Woods (2012) dir. Drew Goddard. This film was an incredibly fun trip that plays with a lot of the horror movie tropes that we've been talking about for the last 6+ months of this pod. Morganne discusses which stereotype they and their friends would represent in the film while Bree and Morganne both talk about boobies! This film wraps up the summer nicely and prepares us all for autumn, and the darkness πŸ‘», that is (hopefully) right around the corner. Stage Fright (2014)
Happy Pride, kids!! "I'm gay, I'm gay!" We're kicking off Pride Month with Morganne's dream horror movie: Stage Fright (2014) dir. Jerome Sable. This movie is serial killer meets Phantom of the Opera meets Camp Rock meets... Feudal Japan? Some of it's cringe, some of it's camp, but it's fun all around! We also talk about all serious happenings like the Russia/Ukraine conflict, the subway shooting in Brooklyn, and Betty White's death (again), so we are your one-stop shop for updates... 2 months later. Martyrs (2008)
Annnnnnd your favorite most unreliable podcast is back! This is another extremely graphic one, friends, so a big trigger warning for violence (specifically against women), blood, gore, and suicide.  This week we're covering Martyrs (2008), dir. Pascal Laugier. This film had us talking about what happens after you die and the many theories about the ending of this film. While it's a graphic movie, it is truly mind-boggling and keeps you guessing until the very end. However, as we keep saying, make sure you keep your actors safe when you are filming graphic content!! The Last House on the Left (2009)
This episode is a long one, so it's the perfect rainy, spooky day listen! We get into an in-depth discussion of The Last House on the Left (2009), dir. Dennis Iliadis. This movie is intense, therefore we want to give a big TW for sexual assault, r*pe, gore, and violence, especially around 1:23-1:43. Morganne also pays a tribute to the late, great Stephen Sondheim and Bree discusses RuPaul's Drag Race. Cape Fear (1962)
Annnnnnd we're back! This week we're talking about Cape Fear (1962) dir. J. Lee Thompson. This movie quickly became a favorite and not just because Gregory Peck is so handsome in it. We have an in depth discussion about the many themes surrounding law enforcement in this film and how progressive it is for when it was made. We also find out what Morganne's name represents in Urban Dictionary! "Watch out, Morganne's coming!" TW: this episode does have mentions of assault and r*pe.  As per usual, please rate, review and subscribe to us wherever you listen to podcasts and follow us on Instagram @TooCutetobeScaryPod, @alymcbree, and @morgannemelcher.
