We are all familiar with the word prayer but did you know that Jesus and the Holy Spirit pray for you? We pray to God but God also prays for us. In Romans 8:34 we read this: “Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” Did you get that? The one who died for you and who was raised from the dead, who sits at the right hand of the father is right now also interceding for you. In Romans 8:26-27 we are told that the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf as well. “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” In those times when we don’t even know how to pray in our confusion or pain, the Holy Spirit is there praying for us and interceding with the Father. We often see prayer as some sort of obligation on our part. It isn’t as we will see tomorrow. But think of the love and care of God to pray on our behalf, even when we don’t know how to pray. Even when we don’t ask Him to do so! The extent of His love for us is that he died for our sin, was raised from the dead, saves us, sanctifies us, justifies us, fills us with His Spirit, and then intercedes for us with the Father. You and I are constantly being lifted up to the Father because we are the family of God.If you want to get a sense of what God prays for you, read the amazing High Priestly prayer in John 17. There He prays that we will be unified with Him and one another. He prays for our blessing. He prays for our protection from the evil one: “protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.” He prays that we would be sanctified by the truth of His word. How amazing is it that even when we are lazy in approaching Him in prayer, He is praying for us. That is the extent of His love for you and I. As you walk through your day today, engage Him in prayer and thank Him often that He is interceding on your behalf with the Father. And know that in those situations where you don’t even know how to pray that the Spirit is praying for you because the Spirit knows our needs and shares them with the Father. It will be amazing to learn in eternity how God interceded for us in this life. Let that encourage you today.Father, thank you for your intercession on my behalf. Your love and concern is beyond my comprehension. Thank you that you did not only save me but you walk with me through every circumstance in this life. Amen.
