“If you want to make a human being into a monster, deny them, at the cultural level, any reflection of themselves.” - Junot Diaz

It’s February, the month of love, and there’s no better time to unearth our dreaded experiences with dating. As three South Asian women who feel like we inhabit multiple identities at once, we talk about our personal experiences, the lack of representation of people of color in Western rom-coms, and what that does to our dating culture as a whole.

We mention a great episode of the Hulu series Ramy, which sums up dating as a woman of color: S1 episode 6, “Refugees” as well as a Buzzfeed video on racial preferences in dating.
