Today is part one of a two-part series with Jennifer Choi of Special Support Services in New York City. She discusses the untapped brilliance of students with Twice Exceptionalities and how they can be supported in the classroom. As a parent of a gifted student with writing challenges, Jenn hired an advocate who is now one of her business partners. They offer assistance to help parents have a voice in educational planning through IEP advocacy, role-playing and skill-building with students, and sharing information with the community. Yet, they remain affordable for single parents.

I also share my story of being denied support for my son, who is exceptional in math, yet is average in literacy. He does have several scores that lowered his overall IQ, which impacted his executive function skills. These barriers to self-direction interfered with a unique program that we trialed for him in 7th grade.
