Kicking off Season two with a discussion around my journey around attempting to become an entrepreneur.  So far, so learned!  Finally, I touch on the current sad state of personal styling and fashion commerce for dudes over 40... it ain't pretty!

Since Covid hit, I've moved from ecobee over to Shopify as part of my return to the Ottawa area where I grew up.  In this podcast I interview a very longtime friend of mine, Pat Woodcock on his career as a professional athlete and trainer, and we talk parallels between our lives and what it was like being part of a Championship winning sports team.  We use the analogy alot here at Shopify that we're a team that wants to win championships and how we need to create that mindset and find people who can help us win, so I thought it would be great to see what we all could learn from someone who has won ACTUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS with professional sports teams.

We had an incredible launch this week, and I take a moment to tell you all about the pre-launch leaks that happened, how they can happen to anyone, and why I'm not bitter (really I'm not!).  After that I delve into an idea stolen from developing as an illustrator called "Mileage" and why that concept is so important to developing Product Professionals.  Great to be back with a new episode.

In this episode I explain what a recruiter is, and the differences between internal and external recruiters.  I also talk about the benefits of working with each, and how to get to to the top of their list.I also introduce you to my top-secret list of the best recruiter's I work with as well.Show your local recruiter some love during these trying times!

The big story here is one about knowing when you have a really good idea.I also talk about the two mentoring calls I had with mentees this week about two topics.  The first is about how I define Systems Thinking and the second is a long answer to the question "What do I look for when hiring a Product Manager?"
