Today we talk about our lived experience as people who suffer from co-occurring disorders.
Yay!
It is estimated that about 17.5 million Americans over the age of 18 (or 8 percent of the adult population) had a serious mental health disorder in the past year. Of these, about 4 million people also struggled Iwith a co-occurring drug or alcohol dependency.
That's a lot.
How do we cope with mental health when the one thing that gives us relief (or so we thought) is taken away? Getting sober was the easy part. Active recovery and learning to manage our mental health without drugs or alcohol, that's the challenge.
It's not easy to speak openly about being a person in recovery, and it's equally as difficult talking openly and honestly about our mental health. But its important to speak about it.
Join us as we get real vulnerable and open about our mental health diagnosis and the fight to manage them in recovery.
