Hymn 465 - Christ Is Our Corner-Stone

42 minutes Posted Jul 10, 2026 at 4:00 pm.

-25 serves as one of the foundation passages for this hymn: "Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, And I will praise the LORD. 20 This is the gate of the LORD, Through which the righteous shall enter. 21 I will praise You, For You have answered me, And have become my salvation. 22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This was the LORD’S doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Save now, I pray, O LORD; O LORD, I pray, send now prosperity. 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! We have blessed you from the house of the LORD."

Our hymn study this weekend is "Christ Is Our Corner-Stone" (TLH 465) which is an English translation of a Latin hymn from around 700AD. This hymn beautifully describes the nature of the salvation that Jesus has won for us, and, as a result of that salvation, the blessings that are ours now and in heaven.

Psalm

It points to Jesus as the Cornerstone of the church and the only foundation of the church.

It also describes the blessings we receive in church through the reception of the Means of Grace.

Finally, it describes the joy of singing the praises of God in heaven.

Rejoice in the blessings that God imparts to you and for you at His house! Thanks be to God!
