Show notes
Michael Ortiz is an exceptional storyteller that utilizes all the tools to build his vision: words, video, photo and the art of the interview.. His unrelenting work ethic in the field captures the movement and life of his subjects. His eye for detail and nuance in the editing room hones the story into a compelling, cinematic documentary. Heart Beat of the Pit and Chasing the Plains are excellent examples of is work. When I restarted my adventure/travel writing career 2.0 in 2018, I had no idea how rich my life would become with new friends. Michael is nearly half my age, but we share a love of classic action movies, especially one’s staring Arnold. To be honest, they’re just the movies from my youth, not necessarily classic. On the show Michael and I break down Over The Top with Sylvester Stallone. We dive into how Grease is the perfect lesson on how to avoid perfection paralysis in writing and documentary work. Grease 2 is briefly mentioned. In this episode, Michael and I sit down in the studio (be sure to watch the video) in a "Dick Cavett" meets “Between Two Ferns” conversation. We talk about impostor syndrome, creating horizontal content in a vertical world, food, family and 5Ks. Michael edited the video portion of this episode, and it looks amazing. Go to michaelaortiz.com to check out Michael’s work (you might catch me in one of those) and give him a follow on Instagram @amichaelortiz. Stick around or fast forward to the end to see Michael sample my famous flourless chocolate torte. Stick around after the credits and see even more shenanigans! This was a fun episode. Thank you Michael for all your help on the video production!
