What happens when the path our Good Shepherd leads us on takes us straight into darkness? Psalm 23 verse 4 leads us into one of the most honest realities of the Christian life: the valley is real, it is dark, and it is part of the journey. This week, Midtown friend, Bob Simmons takes us deep into that valley alongside some of the most familiar figures in scripture. We walk with Abraham as he faces the unthinkable demand to surrender the very promise God gave him. We sit with Joseph through years of betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment, only to discover that what his brothers meant for harm, God was weaving into something that would save nations. These are not stories of people who were airlifted above their suffering. They are stories of people who walked through it, and came out knowing God in ways they never could have otherwise. The valley, it turns out, is not a detour from the life of faith. It is one of its most essential passages.
