I am so glad I found your podcast. It is wonderful to hear your perspectives about social work. I have been a case manager/social worker for people with developmental delays in the USA for the past 30 years. It is good to know social workers around the world can connect and relate to each other. Keep up the great work!

Been a fan of Vince since the SWT Facebook page and podcast, and loved when Tilly joined the podcast. These two walk the line of humor and seriousness about the profession incredibly well. I enjoy listening to them weekly and missed hearing their voices in the interim between the SWT podcast and this one. Very glad to have them back!

Having worked in child protection in California for over 25 years, I appreciate this podcast because the hosts totally understand the job. There are different terminologies and procedures between UK and US but the issues, concerns and rewards are the same. I enjoy figuring out the differences. We all struggle with balancing the demands of the job and the desires of a personal life and I have found the podcast reminds me I’m not alone and challenges me in practice and raising my professionalism.

I absolutely love this podcast! If you are a social worker anywhere in the world, working with any population, you need to listen to social work radio. The hosts have great chemistry and they help me know that I am not the only person with my professional struggles and frustrations. Thanks for such a quality show!

I loved hearing Leanne’s perspective about Social Work and the Social Work field. I also enjoyed hearing SWT talk about the crossover with the UK. Leanne has a wealth of knowledge and her passion comes through !!!

It’s great to hear from someone doing the work and feeling like you’re in a safe space to hear about every day’s concerns. This is def. a necessary podcast that provides relief from the everyday battles and questions we have in Social Work. I’m a happy listener.

I find this podcast refreshing when it talks about things that are controversial. For example, I may not agree that Trump should be president (and I’m highly glad that he lost), but it was interesting and eye opening to see the other side and their thought processes. I believe that as social workers we need to have these conversations in order to be better and more understanding of each other. So thank you SWT for making this happen.

I am horrified that this podcast used their platform to peddle hateful nonsense that stands against everything that social workers (in theory) stand for. I won’t be listening any longer.

I listened to the episode Social Workers should vote for Trump because I genuinely wanted to hear reasons why social workers would vote for Trump. Yet what I heard was unsubstantiated reasons why she voted for Trump. Checking out the numbers, you can tell that this administration has been extremely harmful to minorities, BIPOC. All you have to do is look up the stats! Also, as social workers if you will be utilizing terms such as White Saviorism, White washing, cultural appropriation and micro aggression then you should know the definition and understand their application, which you did not. The way the terms were used on this episode only further harmed BIPOC, by using them incorrectly. Please note that when she said that what you want is a unified country, note that we have never been a unified country!!! Ever. There have always been folks seen as others, who are treated as less than or foreigners and that has not been the white majority. The fact that she was allowed to spew incorrect information on this episode was irresponsible. She obviously has not looked into his actual passed and implemented policies and how they have fared. This was such a hurtful episode. I don’t see how it leant any information to the community except to demonstrate classic examples of white fragility by the host and the guest. Her statements of what was accomplished by this administration were based on opinion, not factual or truthful. As a minority, who is also a social worker, who works with BIPOC, we didn’t not benefit from this administration. Factual and Truthful, not supposed. As social workers she should know the difference.

This podcast is offensive to the field of social work and people doing the real work of fighting for social equality and justice. Horrible.

Conservation values are based on Christian values- great... but we arent a Christian nation. The whole point of the us is freedom of religion. Your mom is a lawyer and you vote for the candidate who will least effect you?? (Appreciate your honesty) but we’re voting for the leader of the country not a spouse or roommate. Social workers look at the whole system! Wow... Trump has character? How can you ignore what he says and does... Trump empire? The hotels have frequently declare bankruptcy! You don’t think trump does deals under the table? That’s business to a T and maybe he’s just wheeling and dealing with different people then your usual politician.

I only recently started listening to this podcast, and I find myself deeply disturbed as a social worker by the views the host is willing to support. As social workers, our job is to help and support many of those struggling in society. I just listened to over an hour of ranting in a show of significant white fragility with a severe lack of understanding of core principles. 1. If you don’t know what micro aggressions are, just don’t use the term 2. Many of those most at risk of COVID are also most at risk of poverty, addiction, etc. it’s not actually separate 3. Adoptive parents aren’t doing kids a favor or doing a “good deed” as they put it. Thats not a misspeak or just not saying the right thing as they kept harping on. That’s a very old and damaging mindset unfortunately a lot of social workers have held in the past that has led to children (particularly minority children) being stolen from their parents to be placed with white families. It’s also led to a rampant “rehoming” community with few to no laws to protect the children. Adoptive kids are not projects. They’re either your children (meaning it’s the same as you just not using birth control) or they’re not. 4. If a child is sad one day and still feeling that way a month later, that’s literally the definition of depression. 5. Voting is a right that is most often taken from POC and those who already have less of a voice in our society. POC are more likely to lose that right not because they committed a crime, but because they couldn’t afford a good lawyer. I could go through a much longer list, but it seems the host and at least one of his guests lack a basic understanding of many of the core principles of social work.

I am a social worker. I liked listening to the different stories of people in the field. However, the episode on Social Workers voting for Trump really disappointed me. I wonder what population the American lady works with. I wonder if she recognizes the harm already experienced by POC under this administration. How this administration is seeking to remove coverage for Millions with pre-existing conditions. Does she not care? What about his attacks on the LGBTQ community, trans people, Muslims. How do you say that his policies are best for America when they don’t include ALL Americans! Even your focus on his economic policies. This administration has enter into agreements that have absolutely benefited him. And then to offer the idea that people who don’t fit the “traditional” values schema will just run amuck sexually and run in to immoral behaviors. Why not acknowledge how more straight white Christian men support pornography at a greater rate than any other group. I don’t mind listening to the views of those that don’t agree with. My own nut when you don’t present an accurate view of the group you oppose I sad. And when you are a social worker and don’t do it I’m SORELY DISAPPOINTED!!

I don’t understand why he let a trump supporter get on the podcast and spread Fox News talking points. I was interested to hear her side but she just got to spread propaganda unchallenged. She also lied about the stormy Daniel situation and hunter Biden.

As a front line Social Worker with over 20 years experience in foster care and child protective services I have found this podcast to be realistic, entertaining, and full of helpful information. I have enjoyed learning about the councils and practices of the UK as an American. There is only one thing that would make it better but not sure how it would work or if possible but, to be able to call in and make comments during the show. There were so many times I reached for my phone today as I listened to SWT & Matt discuss if SWs should have their lives together. Matt I’d love for a book club to be started with both fiction and nonfiction. SWT please know you are making a difference. Please thank your family for lending you to all of us.

I am enjoying this podcast. I am a forty three year old social work student. I have enjoyed listening to caring professionals already in the field. Also their humor and honesty make me think I could gladly share a pint with them.

Hey there- I’m currently an child welfare social worker in Frederick, Maryland (US). I mainly work with children and families who are working towards adoption, but previously I was a CPS worker. I’ve been doing this job for almost 5 years and have my LCSW-C. I’ve been listening to this podcast for a few months and I enjoy it so much. It helps me feel connected to other workers who struggle with similar work and personal issues. Thank you for providing such a great platform to share info and perspective on child welfare social work. Bring back Cara. This is my only criticism. I work for CPS in Mississippi (US). We are busy, and that’s an understatement. I listen to your podcast while driving some of the 2,700 miles I average on the road a month! You guys are great and it’s interesting to hear those in other countries facing the same issues as we are. I also follow you on Facebook and tag my co-work in your memes almost daily! We get a good laugh from them! Please keep the interesting topics, rants, and laughs coming. As a BSW student, I love their down-to-earth attitdue and real talk when it comes to social work. In addition, they are straight forward, funny, and direct that gives you a feeling of community within the social work world. Keep it up, ya'll are great and I look forward to new episodes every week.

Hello! I’m a new case manager, fresh out of college, in the U.S. and I have to say, I love this podcast. I’ve worked with non-profits for the last 3-4 years, and have come to understand the circumstances surrounding the poor, undersourced work environments. Until I heard your podcast, I felt downtrodden because I thought there was nothing to look forward to in this profession. I thought it couldn’t be as personally fulfilling as I imagined it would be in high school. After hearing the “Work/Life Balance Podcast”, I felt like I had friends or mentors who hace gone through the same struggles as I have. I think that- solidarity and being understood- are priceless. You reminded me why I decided to become a social worker in the first place. So THANK YOU!! I don’t feel so alone anymore and know that countless of other social workers throughout the WORLD also share in my love for this profession, and occasional frustration with the obstacles that come attached with the job. ❤️❤️❤️ God Bless you guys~~

The content is interesting and I think I would enjoy it but I had to turn off until they learn to control their breathing while talking. The constant heavy intake of breath that was almost a snort was really distracting. Slow down a little people.

The only problem I have with the podcast is that I want more, and there isn’t more just yet, but I’m looking forward to hearing it! The podcast had me laughing within the first 10 seconds. Despite being in the United States, the content is easy to follow and social work tutor does a great job of providing background information for those not in the U.K. Looking forward to more and will be recommending the podcast to other social workers!

Talking to hear their own voice. I've heard such mixed things about this guy and have to say I can see why he's so off-putting after giving it a go. Not sure what their relationship is but it just doesn't work. Go for something worth your hour.

First episode and already hooked. Laughed so hard I woke people up at home. Felt tears well up when more serious things came up, but it just reminds me how much I love this work and that there is a group of people out here who do too...in fact all over the world. Can’t wait for future episodes.
