Studenten Stehen Auf (STAUF) is a decentralized German network of young people from different political, social, religious and geographical backgrounds who take a critical look at various topics, primarily the COVID-19 response by the German government.

"Since the official declaration of the COVID-19 epidemic as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020, our governments (in Germany, Austria and Switzerland) have imposed a wide variety of measures to contain the pandemic. These measures have increasingly restricted citizens' private and public lives. What began with business closures and the cancellation of major events ultimately expanded to include a mask requirement in public transport, shops and inner cities, led to contact and night curfews, daycare and school closures, prevention of undisturbed practice of religion, work and ultimately also on restrictions on the right to demonstrate." - STAUF

In this interview of the SAM Podcast, Leigh Vossen and Sheldon Munroe interview Paul Romey and Mike Kutzera of the German student advocacy group, STAUF. We discuss the German government's COVID-19 policies and how Germans responded to them. In addition, Paul and Mike share the origins of STAUF, what they stand for and what actions they take to push back against unjust policies.
