This episode was a special live edition for LA Comic Con. During our panel, we took a deep dive into what it will take for women and female identifying people to be equally represented in geek entertainment. While a lot of progress has been made on screen over the past decade in Hollywood, when you get to geek entertainment like action, sci fi, animation and video games the statistics are abysmal. And the number of women in the writer’s room and director’s chair is even lower. As the success of films such as Black Widow and games such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Lara Croft show, female led titles can be successful and profitable. But they are still few and far between and face constant push back from video game publishers and entertainment execs. And a discussion about female equality can't be complete without also discussing queer representation and racial and ethnic diversity in geek culture.
