The last African people to be enslaved landed near Mobile, Alabama. Their tragic story and their survival is a story that must be remembered -- no matter how hard those who bought them into bondage tried to make us forget. The ship Clotilda, and the story of those who crossed the Atlantic in her, must be remembered. The descendants who built a life here need to be recognized.
