In this episode Jono catches up with Jon Lundgren from Blue Dasher Farm and Ecdysis.
Jon is an exceptional communicator and is doing great things in the world of bringing science to the farming communities of the world.
Jon realized that in order to do this he needed to put himself in the farmers shoes.
Jon was a scientist for the USDA for over a decade and all the time he was there conducting science around risk assessment and how to control insect pests with chemicals, he believed there must be a better way.
Although Jons heart was telling him this, he had no idea of how to do things differently because he had not put himself in the farmers shoes, and that what he was doing was simply standard best practice and all he knew.
Jon attended some local no till field days and discovered that the no till farmers had no insect pest issues. This was a turning point for Jon.
He realized that these farmers were creating ecosystems with such biodiversity that if any pest insect came into the picture they would be devoured by the many beneficial predators.
Jon became fascinated with Regenerative Agriculture and started to discover that this now more complex way if thinking needed a different scientific approach.
When he left the USDA after discovering the link between Neonicatinoid seed treatments and the decline of butterfly and bee population, Jon decided to become a farmer himself and conduct the research through a different lens.
Blue Dasher and Ecdysis was born.
Jon mentions how there is a sense of urgency right now, and that "its not so easy to jump back onto a cliff"
This is a very powerful conversation, one for all to benefit from.
