On the show tonight, Joe begins with some breaking news. First, Yankee Domingo German was caught with a foreign substance on his hand and ejected in Toronto. He must mot be that bright if he got caught after Max Scherzer was caught a few weeks ago. Joe also wonders if there was something going on with Aaron Judge looking into the dugout last night. Locally in Philly, the big news was the Sixers firing Doc Rivers today. Joe is not surprised, and when you can’t get to an Eastern Conference Final in three years, complicated by an embarrassing loss in game 7, he had to go. But Joe saw this coming in the second quarter with James Harden’s “flagrant foul 1” in the second quarter. He thought it was a letter of the law call and not necessarily the correct call. Joe felt it was a precursor for what happened later on in the game. Mickey mentioned in the chat that Pat McAfee’s show will be on ESPN in the fall. Good for him, but it doesn’t look good when all these employees are getting laid off while McAfee gets hired right after that. Then Joe wheels back to the Sixers head coach opening and talks about NBC Sports Philly’s John Clark’s Facebook post about an offshore book’s odds to become the next head coach. Joe doesn’t know who he wants yet, but he wouldn’t mind checking in on former Villanova coach Jay Wright or South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley, who grew up in North Philly. Bryce Harper was ejected Sunday and Joe reviews that incident. He probably won’t get suspended, but Jake Bird was talking way too much smack for a guy that was wilder than Ricky Vaughn in Major League. Joe wonders if he’d talk that much if there was no DH in baseball. Also, Colorado pitcher was knocked out of the game on Saturday night as Ryan Feltner took a line drive from Nick Castellanos off the back of his head, fracturing his skull. He was in the hospital overnight for observation, but he appears to be okay, though he will miss time. Next, Joe wonders where in the world is Angel Hernandez. Yeah, it’s nice that we don’t have to deal with his crap on a nightly basis, but he mysteriously disappeared after only umpiring one game on April 3. We think it’s medical, but we can’t confirm. Even though he’s a horrible umpire, some people, including me that if this is medical, we wish him well. Then we see why Joe votes via mail. COVID? No. Joe’s not afraid of that. He feels he can be more creative with his write in candidates, like he was for the Philly Democratic Sheriff’s race and for an uncontested City Council race. Finally, Joe sees a potential issue when he goes to Vegas in two weeks. He will be landing around the end of game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. That 5 to 10 minute taxi from the airport to his hotel across the street from the arena could be a long one.
