On the Tuesday TPGS show, Joe begins with the news that Bryce Harper returns the lineup today only 160 days removed from Tommy John surgery. Joe thinks that the fact that the designated hitter along with Harper’s work ethic sped up the return date.
Then Joe mentions the latest NBA news where Joel Embiid was named NBA MVP earlier tonight. Joe thought it was great that Embiid had everyone together with him when he was interviewed, because even though it was an individual award, he recognized that it was a team effort that he was chosen the most valuable player. Joe also thinks that there was voter fatigue (correcting the term here that Joe used on stream) with Jokic and Giannis having won MVPs in the past.
Sixers won game 1 without Embiid in Boston and the Sixers have a good shot to win the series now. Joe thinks that it’s nice to win one game on the road, but since you’re there, why not win both?
The Boston Bruins choked, losing the final three games of their series to the Florida Panthers. Joe compared the Bruins to the 1991 UNLV team that was undefeated all year, having no competition until meeting up with Duke who had revenge on their minds from the previous season’s national championship game. Florida didn’t necessarily have revenge on their minds, but they were in playoff mode leading up to the playoffs, unlike Boston.
Then Joe steers away from sports for a few minutes and realizes that he has his mail in ballot that he has to fill out for the Pennsylvania primary. Joe doesn’t get his ballot mailed to him because he’s afraid of COVID (he’s not afraid of that), but because he can anonymously (sorta) vote for some funny names in uncontested races.
The Florida Panthers as we know advanced to the second round, and they are restricting Toronto Maple Leafs fans from buying tickets through Ticketmaster. VPNs won’t work, because Ticketmaster will track the credit cards addresses, and if it’s from outside the US, your purchase is cancelled. But Toronto fans still have the second hand market if they want to go to the games in Florida, though it will cost more.
Then Joe gave some initial horse racing thoughts and tips for the Kentucky Derby. Joe is trying to wait until Thursday to make his picks. Joe showed the effects of the new starting gate that is used exclusively for mile-and-a-quarter races, which it the distance to be run on Saturday evening. Joe shows the new gate is one gate of 20 stalls, and takes up less space, giving the horse in the first gate a better chance at not ending up slamming into the rail. Joe shows the old gate, where there was an auxiliary gate of six stalls, and the regular gate of 14 attached to the auxiliary. Though Joe did not have the proper video, but Joe explained that the horse in that first gate would be looking straight at the rail and not the dirt of the top of the stretch.
