On the Thursday show, Joe began with story time. Over the last 36 to 48 hours, Joe had some bad luck in real life. Slow as sin cashiers, fellow cashiers bumping my cart into me, customers screaming non-stop the last two days while working. Trivial? Yes! But at least I can kinda make fun of it!
Then we get to the sports portion of the show. There is going to be a new “Commander in Chief”. No, Biden is still the president, but Josh Harris’ group is buying the Commanders from Dan Snyder for over $6 billion! I’m guessing Josh Harris will buy the Pittsburgh Pirates next to complete the purchasing franchises from markets that Philly fans despise!
The Tampa Bay Rays are 13-0 after sweeping Boston on Thursday afternoon. They haven’t really played anybody, and with his good friend GWK in the chat, Joe may have given a pick for tomorrow night. The Rays will finally play a team over .500 with their series in Toronto starting tomorrow.
There’s a new group that wants to try to get an expansion MLB franchise when MLB decides to go to 32 teams, which will be once the stadium issues with Oakland and Tampa Bay are resolved. Oakland probably goes to Las Vegas, and Joe thinks if the Rays move, they go to Montreal. But that new group in Salt Lake City wants to get in on the expansion process, joining the groups in Nashville and Portland. Joe also thinks that the new stadium that the SLC owners are building for the 2025 season could be expandable if they are looking to get an MLB franchise, which would have instant geographic rivalries with Arizona and Colorado.
Joe had a “told you so” segment. Well, kinda! Joe suggested before the season started that Bryce Harper should fill in at first base once he’s allowed to play the field, and guess who was taking grounders and instruction at first base? Yup! Bryce Harper. Told you so?
On Tuesday’s show I said that I did not like that some MLB teams are extending last call til the end of the 8th inning. Phillies pitcher Matt Strahm must have been listening to Tuesday’s pod (or so I wish) because he’s against teams extending last call with the thought of allowing fans to sober up before they leave the game. Apparently, someone does think like Joe does! hahahaha Joe says that we are in a great time for sports. Baseball season just started, the NBA and NHL start their playoffs soon as well. The play-in tourney in the NBA ends tomorrow. Oh, my favorite sports event, the Kentucky Derby is just 3 weeks away!
Finally, Joe brought back the “Stupid S--- I Saw” segment, talking about how someone stole an estimated $100k in dimes. Well, at least the authorities said dimes. Looks like there were all kinds of coins on the ground when this story was on the news earlier today.
