Hi I'm David Morrison, welcome to the Optimised Dad Podcast.  Where I dig deep into the world of what it means to fully Optimise your life as a man, father and a husband. 

My story starts like this.  

"You are not the man I married".  I dont think any man wants to hear those words, I did.  Just before my 40th birthday.  

Up until that point I had been pretending a lot in life.  

Pretending that not being honest with where life was, and just sharing the BS version of life with my friends, all to avoid any tough conversations.  

Pretending my health was OK and that is totally normal to be hungover everyday weekend with my kids. 

Pretending that my finances were all good, even though I struggled to look at my bank statements and would always just spend the money to create an experience that would bring the family all together - feeling great for a while.

Pretending my marriage was rock solid but the reality was we were just good mates and if anything I was the one not giving 100% because I was blaming everyone else for what was wrong. 

Pretending it would all work itself out, thats the way it is right.  

Pretending dulling myself down with drugs and alcohol was all ok. 

Then, I got handed a message that made it a must for me to change.  It made it totally non negotiable for me to start lifting my standards.  

I got the message that I am either a warning or an example in life and I was now handed an opportunity to change. 

I started to take 100% responsibility for where the fuck I was in life. 

But I was a good person, how did it all end up here, how did I end up not living into my potential, a shell of myself and just conscious enough that I had to dull it all down everyday. 

You see, we dont get much of playbook getting into the marriage and father gig, it starts of with love and passion and then before you know it you have to responsible. 

What I have learnt over the past 6 years is there is a new play book to being a man, father and husband.  It requires new skills, new learning and being totally 100% responsible for your outcomes in life.
