Jonathan Greening - "Playing pool with Sir Alex for a Champions League Final place"
Jonathan Greening joined the UTD Podcast this week, looking back on his playing days and ahead to his future in the game as a coach. Jono's stories from his first year at Old Trafford were incredible, particularly his paintballing session with the likes of David Beckham, Peter Schmeichel and Gary Neville - on his first week at the club! He also told us the story from Barcelona where - on the day of the 1999 Champions League Final - Sir Alex Ferguson challenged him to a game of pool to win a place on the bench that night. At the time of recording, Jonathan was finding it difficult to break in to coaching, but has since been named the Manager of Scarborough Athletic. We wish him the best of luck! Tony Coton - "How I brought van der Sar to Old Trafford"
Current Manchester United Scout and former club goalkeeper Tony Coton joins the UTD Podcast this week. TC shared some great stories from his spells at Birmingham City and Watford - including a pre-season tour with Elton John! We breezed through his time at Manchester City to get to his stories of working with Sir Alex Ferguson as his goalkeeper and, later, as the club's first full-time goalkeeping coach. Tony worked with Peter Schmeichel before being tasked with finding his replacement. That eventually led to the arrival of Edwin van der Sar from Fulham and we heard all about how that transfer came about, climaxing in the Dutchman's heroics in Moscow to lift the 2008 Champions League trophy.
