In part three of the Mike Wise Show's four part series on the North Carolina Basketball Family, Mike Wise, his co-host Bruce Bernstein and our panel of Tar Heel greats George Karl, George Lynch, and Matt Doherty explain how legendary coach Dean Smith, who was head coach from 1961-1997 had a perfectly aligned moral compass and encouraged all of his players to express their opinions when they felt strongly about them. He was keenly aware that in order for his players to grow as men, they needed the freedom to speak about social issues without fear.
