First off, our thoughts and hearts go out to the friends and families impacted by last week's shooting at the Monterey Park Lunar New Year festival.

The Midnight Memo is thinking of you in the wake of this awful tragedy. This episode was recorded weeks prior, so although it is not mentioned in the video, you are in our hearts, and we stand proud with our Chinese/Asian-American community.

Now, onto the other stuffs. Chinese--or Lunar--New Years, celebrates the beginning of a new year according to the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. It's a time for families to reunite over food, and perform customs to believed to bring maximum good luck in the new year.

And although proud to call this her culture, Claire admits, she doesn't always feel it's her right to claim her Chinese heritage.
Similarly, Kristen has struggled with juggling her (many) asian heritages and how they all play into the person she is.

Listen in as Kristen and Claire rediscover their adolescent teenage identity crisis(es) of being caught between cultures, seeking acceptance by their communities, and yearning for a space to belong to--in this week's episode of The Midnight Memo!
