Josiah Osgood, Part Two: Cicero reaches his political peak by defeating Catiline for the consulship and exposing his popular debt-relief conspiracy. However, executing five citizen conspirators without a trial becomes Cicero's fatal mistake. His enemy Publius Clodius Pulcher, seeking revenge after Cicero breaks his alibi in the sacrilegious Bona Deascandal, passes a law exiling anyone who executed citizens without trial. Cicero's prized mansion is destroyed, and he is forced into exile. He eventually returns, witnesses Julius Caesar's dramatic assassination, and wages a fatal oratorical war against Mark Antony via his Philippics, leading to his execution. (2)
