Every parent who ever took a phone out of their kid’s hand and got told they were overreacting just got backed up by a jury. A New Mexico jury ordered Meta, you know, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, to pay $375 million for harming children on its platforms.

They found that the company knew it and they hid it. A day later, a different jury found that Meta and YouTube were liable for social media addiction.

So what’s the rub here? These platforms knew what they were doing. Get us hooked as kids and they’ll have us forever and drain our pocketbooks. Sounds awful. Because it is awful.
