I was asked to explore gender inequalities for a school project and learn how different influences shape perspectives. As an artifact, I chose to put together a podcast containing snippets of interviews I conducted with my family members.
Excerpt:
The first interview I conducted was with my mom. I got really deep into the mindset of “I must prove the ways the women in my family faced and overcame gender bias.” However, as I listened to the stories from my relatives, I realized the victim complex I was forcing on them was not the best way to showcase the phenomenal women in my family tree. There will always be a story of a negative interaction between a man and woman, from dismissiveness to cat-calls to violence, this will always be present. Society tends to focus on the ways men make women stronger, but the significance of another woman’s influence is rarely acknowledged.
