Death has a way of snapping everything back into focus. In this episode of The Impossible Life Podcast, Nick Surface and former Navy SEAL Garrett Unclebach confront a subject most people spend their lives avoiding: mortality. Whether it comes through losing someone you love, witnessing tragedy, facing danger, or simply realizing that your time is limited, these “mortality moments” reveal what you actually believe. For Christian men, faith in Jesus should create a radically different relationship with death not because we believe we are invincible, but because we know we are eternal.
The resurrection of Jesus changes the entire equation. If Christ defeated death, then death is no longer the ultimate threat, and fear no longer gets to dictate how a man lives. Biblical masculinity means structuring your life around truth before pressure forces you to react to circumstances. It means having the courage and endurance to obey God when doing the right thing is costly, refusing to quit because life becomes uncomfortable, and understanding that this earthly life is only one part of a much larger eternal story. Death may end your time here, but for the believer, it does not end your life.
That perspective should create urgency, not passivity. You have one earthly life, and every day you are running out of it. So what will you do with what God has put in your hands? Build the strongest marriage you can. Love your children deeply. Pursue your purpose. Know God. Serve others. Live with faith and courage instead of allowing the fear of death to make your decisions for you. When eternity becomes real, suffering looks different, priorities become clearer, and the goal becomes simple: live a life that honors God so completely that when death comes, you have nothing left that you wish you had given.
